Mr. Speaker, I want to tell the hon. member that I read those same rumours in the newspaper this morning. I can tell him that the last thing we want is centralized news out of Toronto.

Mr. Speaker, I want to tell the hon. member that I read those same rumours in the newspaper this morning. I can tell him that the last thing we want is centralized news out of Toronto.
Battle Of Vimy Ridge April 5th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, the member and all Canadians know that at Vimy almost 4,000 boys were lost to their families, their friends and their communities.
But from this loss was born a spirit of solidarity, of helping others, and of belonging to a country called Canada.
In support of the private member's bill of my colleagues, the members for Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma—Manitoulin, I am announcing today that this Sunday, April 9, 2000 the flag on parliament's Peace Tower will fly at half mast in honour of the sacrifice made at Vimy Ridge, a corner of France that is forever Canadian.
The Environment March 24th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, one of the things the member will find, if he has an opportunity to read the very comprehensive ecological integrity report, is that one of the points put forth by the panel is that we have to get our ecological house in order before we can go to the Minister of Finance for more money.
One of the reasons we have to do that is that in the past each superintendent looked upon each park simply from the perspective of delivering services in that park. What that meant was an ever arching increase in development.
What we need today is to make sure that we look at everything through an environmental lens, and that is what we intend to do with implementing the recommendations of the panel.
National Parks March 23rd, 2000
Mr. Speaker, one of the recommendations of the report on ecological integrity is that not only do we need interpreters to explore with us the ecosystems of the parks but we also need to return to the park a sense of the aboriginal presence which has been in those lands for 4,000 years and which today is not present in the park system.
I am very pleased with the recommendations of the report that call for a stronger interconnection between aboriginal peoples, interpretation of aboriginal history and also interpretation of ecological integrity, which should be part of the shared parks experience that people will get this summer when they go to our parks.
National Parks March 23rd, 2000
Mr. Speaker, I am especially pleased to have that question today when the students of Buchanan Park School of the city of Hamilton are here, precisely because the ecological integrity panel today tabled a report that will preserve our national parks not only for our grandchildren but for their grandchildren.
They gave us the template. They gave us the blueprint. It is our responsibility to follow this blueprint to make sure that ecological integrity is the number one priority to save every single park in Canada.
National Parks March 22nd, 2000
Mr. Speaker, I think the hon. member is speaking of the report that will be released by Mr. Jacques Gérin tomorrow. I think the report will have some very pertinent information for the government in terms of ensuring the ecological integrity of the park system.
I know, because of the strong support that the budget gave to the whole issue of the environment, it is very important that ecological integrity be included at the top of the issue of parks. Those will hopefully be the points made in Mr. Gérin's report tomorrow, which I know will be supported by all members of the House.
Cinar March 22nd, 2000
Mr. Speaker, I already said many times that the member is making allegations that weigh very heavily on the whole industry.
If he wants to make allegations, he should go to the RCMP, as we have suggested to him at least ten times.
Cinar March 20th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, nobody lied. As soon as the initial allegations were brought to the attention of the House, I personally referred them to the RCMP. I hope that, if there are other allegations, they will be referred directly to the RCMP.
Canadian Heritage March 16th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the member, who kindly informed me of the error this week. As soon as he informed me, I corrected it.
Cinar March 13th, 2000
Mr. Speaker, the very first day that allegations were made, I went straight to the RCMP. They are conducting the investigation.
