Statements in the House

Public Services and Procurement February 12th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Auditor General found that the Liberals wasted at least $60 million on a contract that our public service should have done. Canadians are struggling to put food on the table, and the out-of-touch Liberals are throwing taxpayers' money out the window.

Why are the Liberals so obsessed with making rich consultants richer?

Public Services and Procurement February 12th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I think the Conservatives were upset that I forgot to mention their scandals with the Phoenix pay system and Deloitte. They also have their own scandals to worry about; I should have mentioned those as well.

However, let us talk about the garbage decisions of the Liberal government. The Auditor General found that the Liberals wasted $60 million on an app, the ArriveCAN app, that no one uses and that does not work. This is all at a time when Canadians are struggling with their groceries and their rent.

Why are the Liberals so obsessed with making rich consultants richer, and why are they so out of touch with where Canadians are at?

Public Services and Procurement February 12th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, let us talk about garbage decisions. The Auditor General found that the Liberal government wasted almost $60 million on the ArriveCAN app, which no one uses and which does not even work. This is all at a time when Canadians are struggling to put food on the table and pay their rent or mortgage.

Why are the Liberals—

Grocery Industry February 7th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, both the Liberals and the Conservatives have a history of letting rich CEOs off the hook. We can change that today.

The Prime Minister could learn a lot from the young women I met earlier today who are struggling to make ends meet. They are living a life he has never had to face. While they are being gouged by the major grocery chains, the Prime Minister is siding with the CEOs.

Will the Prime Minister vote in favour of my bill to bring down grocery prices?

Grocery Industry February 7th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister could learn a lot from the young women I met earlier today, who are struggling to put food on the table. They are living a struggle that he has never had to face. They are getting ripped off by corporate grocery stores, and the Prime Minister has let it happen for over two years.

Will the Prime Minister get serious now about taking on corporate greed by supporting my bill to reduce the price of groceries?

Grocery Industry February 6th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, today, the Liberals boasted about announcing more studies on the price of groceries. People do not need more studies, they need the prices to come down. The minister promised to tax excess profits and he broke his promise. The Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities received thousands of dollars in donations from the Sobey family.

Is the minister breaking his promises to please the CEO of IGA?

Grocery Industry February 6th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Liberal government and the Prime Minister promised to tax the excess profits of corporate grocery stores if they failed to stabilize grocery prices. They failed to stabilize prices, and the Liberals again broke their promise.

The Liberals announced, instead, another study on food prices. Canadians do not need another study to know that they are being gouged by corporate greed. We have learned that the Liberal housing minister received thousands of dollars in donations from none other than the Sobeys family. Is that why the Liberals are protecting their wealthy friends?

Pharmacare February 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Liberals keep on choosing big pharma and Canadians keep paying the price.

The Liberals are slinging mud about Loblaws, but they are very well connected too. They have met with Loblaws 60 times in the past two years, and they have received thousands of dollars from the Sobey family. They have the power to lower prices but they are not doing it.

When will the Liberals stop governing for the Sobeys and the Westons?

Pharmacare February 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, Loblaw and Manulife insurance teamed up to limit the coverage of 260 medications for Canadians, more profits for them and less coverage for Canadians. When they tried to do it, we fought back and they walked back the decision. However, the Prime Minister has an opportunity now to end this once and for all by bringing in pharmacare. This is something the Prime Minister has promised and he has broken that promise. The Liberals had promised this and failed for 30 years.

Therefore, the Prime Minister has a choice. Will he choose to stop working for big pharma, yes or no?

Grocery Industry January 31st, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister knows well that no other group can do this work.

I want to talk about Halifax. Halifax has the highest rate of poverty in Canada: One in five children live in poverty. Only once has a Liberal MP for Halifax raised the issue of skyrocketing food prices in the House. How out of touch is that? That is the problem with the Liberals. They pretend that everything is fine if everything is fine with their rich CEO friends.

When will the Prime Minister stop working for Galen Weston and start working for Haligonians?
