Statements in the House

Pharmacare May 10th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the Liberal government has a very cozy friendship with the pharmaceutical industry. In fact, in less than a year, it met with the pharmaceutical lobbyists more than 126 times. It is no wonder we are the third most expensive place for medication in the world.

In 2017, the Prime Minister promised to make a small change that would have significantly reduced the cost of medication but has yet to do it six years later, so when will the Prime Minister stop protecting billionaires and start protecting Canadians?

Democratic Institutions May 9th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, we need a public inquiry. It is necessary.

Foreign interference has a real impact on communities across the country. We saw the impact on the Chinese community, but there are several other communities that are also suffering the consequences.

Imagine what it must be like for families fleeing repressive governments. They arrive in Canada and the threats continue. This government is turning its back on these people. It is radio silence. It is doing nothing to protect these families.

Why is the Prime Minister not calling a public inquiry and why is he not protecting these families?

Democratic Institutions May 9th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, let me help the Prime Minister. It is necessary. We need it.

Foreign interference has a real impact on people's lives. It has a real impact on the Chinese community and on several communities in Canada. Imagine what it must be like for families fleeing repressive governments. They come to Canada and the threats—

Democratic Institutions May 9th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, foreign interference is a serious threat to our democracy. A member of Parliament and his family were targeted by a foreign government for his vote in the House. Imagine what it is like for thousands of families across our country that fled governments that were oppressive only to come to Canada and have those threats follow them.

The Prime Minister will not even call a public inquiry. How can he keep the rest of Canadians facing serious threats safe?

Housing May 4th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, despite all that, housing is more expensive than ever.

The Prime Minister has been the leader of the Liberal Party for 10 years. In those 10 years, his record when it comes to solving the housing crisis adds up to a whole lot of nothing. He is all talk, no action.

Clearly, we are in a housing crisis. When is this government going to take the housing crisis seriously and solve the problem?

Housing May 4th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister has been the leader of the Liberal Party for 10 years. In those 10 years, there has been a lot of broken promises and empty words, particularly when it comes to housing.

The Prime Minister promised to make housing more affordable, and it has been the opposite. It has become more expensive than ever before. At the same time, profiteers have been making more than ever before.

When will the Prime Minister take the housing crisis seriously and acknowledge that we are in an emergency situation that needs urgent action to fix?

Democratic Institutions May 3rd, 2023

Mr. Speaker, I do not think the government understands how serious this is. We have a member of Parliament, and his family, being threatened by a foreign government for the work he does in Parliament. That is a problem. That is something serious. The government is not taking it seriously. I have written a letter to the Prime Minister to call all party leaders to deal with this really serious matter.

In the meantime, could the government and the Prime Minister inform the House of whether there are any other members of Parliament who are currently the subject of similar threats?

Democratic Institutions May 3rd, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the revelations about threats made against a member of Parliament and his family are disturbing.

It is also disturbing that the Minister of Public Safety cannot say when he was informed of these threats.

The minister has had 24 hours for someone to jog his memory, so now can he tell us when he was informed of these threats?

Democratic Institutions May 2nd, 2023

Mr. Speaker, honestly, that is hard to take. Clearly, this government could not care less about the damage caused by its inaction on foreign interference. Clearly, the Prime Minister must have known that the member's family was facing threats abroad.

What will it take for this Prime Minister to take action and immediately launch a public inquiry?

Democratic Institutions May 2nd, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the Beijing government targeted a member of this House and targeted not only the member but the member's family. The Prime Minister knew about this and did nothing. Frankly, I am disappointed. This goes beyond partisan politics. This is about the ability for people in this House to be able to vote their conscience. Why did the Prime Minister not inform the member that his family was being threatened? What will the Prime Minister commit to doing to make sure this never happens again?
