Government Accountability October 24th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, as members know, as a matter of process, there was a willingness on the part of the opposition to take the pension part out, and we voted on that the other day. If there are some other areas of the budget where there is unanimous consent, where the opposition members wish to ask the government to take something out and pass it unanimously, right away, then we can look at that.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation October 23rd, 2012

Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for her question.

Once again, privatization of that organization is merely a rumour. We have absolutely no intention of doing so at this time. We will protect the interests of Canadians as much as possible. Our government is focused on the implementation of our economic action plan, which includes improvements—

Finance October 23rd, 2012

Mr. Speaker, as I have said, with respect to the recommendations of the Auditor General, one to which the hon. member makes reference, we have acted on some and we will act on the others.

The report will be available on the finance website this afternoon.

Finance October 23rd, 2012

Mr. Speaker, the Auditor General actually has said that he agrees that government finances are sustainable over the long term.

With respect to his recommendations, we accept them. We have acted and will act in response. The Auditor General agrees we have taken action necessary to ensure long-term sustainable finances and jobs and economic growth over the long term.

The Economy October 18th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for the very informed question. Our government is supporting the economy with jobs, growth and prosperity. The New Democrats need to explain why they are against that. Why is the NDP against extending the hiring credit for small businesses to create jobs, against promoting interprovincial trade, against improving the registered disability savings plan, against new tax relief for clean energy generation equipment and against closing tax loopholes?

Why is the NDP against all of this and against growing the Canadian economy?

I am sure the hon. member for Outremont wants to work, just like everybody else in this place.

Four hundred pages, can you not—I am sorry. You are not the hon. member for Outremont. I am sure you want to work, too—

Budget Implementation October 18th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, we have had budget bills in this place, including under the previous Liberal government, that were many pages longer than this budget bill.

Having said that—

Budget Implementation October 18th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, as I said a moment ago, there are no surprises. The budget was delivered on March 29. The budget document itself is almost 500 pages. It is the economic action plan of the Government of Canada for our country, not only for this year but for the ensuing years.

This is the plan. This is the creation of jobs, growth and prosperity for our country. I urge the hon. members to read it for their own edification.

Mr. Speaker, as I said a moment ago, the deficit reduction action plan was a major part of the budget. It was important so that we could control the growth of government expenses. Part of that was dealing with the environment and getting to one project one review with time limits.

I am sure the hon. member wants to be informed on these matters. Once again, I suggest that he read the budget this weekend.

Budget Implementation October 18th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, one of the pillars of the budget was the deficit reduction action plan. Part of that dealt with the issues at environment and the Navigable Waters Protection Act.

All of these matters are matters with reference to the budget that was delivered on March 29, many months ago. If members have not bothered to read it and have not bothered to pay attention, I suggest they ought to perhaps take the weekend and review it.
