Statements in the House

Budget Implementation October 18th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, we have a real plan for jobs. We had it in the first budget bill and the second budget bill.

The budget is a wonderful document. Here it is. We delivered it in March. There is nothing new. What is in the bill today is in the budget. If you have not read the budget, I say to my hon. friends on the other side, I do not know what you did all summer. You got paid. You had a good pension plan. So, do your work; do your job.

Small Business October 17th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, our Conservative government recognizes the importance of small business for job creation in Canada. That is why, since 2006, we have lowered their taxes to help them succeed, including reducing the small business tax rate to 11%, which the NDP voted against.

Even worse, the NDP voted against the jobs that are created by the hiring credit for small business. The NDP actually voted against making it easier for small business to hire new workers. The NDP should drop its high-tax agenda--

Employment October 17th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, as the hon. member knows, the Toronto area has done relatively well, particularly in the auto sector, which has made a remarkable comeback since our government made sure that the sector could survive in Canada. The financial services sector is also very strong in the GTA, and continues to grow and show the kind of strength that Canada has in that sector and internationally.

We will continue on the agenda for jobs, growth and prosperity. I hope the member will support the second budget bill.

Budget Implementation October 17th, 2012

As the member opposite knows, Mr. Speaker, the budget this year is an economic action plan for 2012 and beyond that. We have had the first budget bill and now we will have the second budget bill to complete the work that was outlined in the budget.

The results of all of this have been the creation of more than 800,000 net new jobs.

We will continue with the plan as will be contained in the second budget bill to create more jobs, more growth and more prosperity in Canada.

Budget Implementation October 17th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for the question, which is the first question I have had this session, not that the economy is not important for our country.

When we do a budget we follow it up with two budget bills, and we do that every year. The second budget bill is ready and will be introduced shortly. It contains, not surprisingly, measures that are in the budget.

Jobs, Growth and Long-term Prosperity Act June 14th, 2012

moved that the bill be concurred in at report stage.

The Economy June 13th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, economic action plan 2012 is about taking responsible and necessary steps to keep Canada in a position of strength in the global economy today and into the future. It is about ensuring that there are more jobs, ensuring that we can help spur economic growth, ensuring that we have sound public finances and ensuring that we can get back to balanced budgets. This is responsible, necessary and will make Canada's economy stronger.

Taxation June 11th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, in 2005, before our government was elected, under the tax-and-spend Liberals, tax freedom day was on June 26.

Now, following over 140 tax reductions, like lowering the GST, personal taxes, business taxes, introducing the tax-free savings account and much more, tax freedom day is now over two weeks earlier.

A low-tax plan for the average Canadian family means a savings of $3,100 per family.

The Economy June 11th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, we are encouraged to see Europe taking steps to tackle the ongoing challenges with respect to sovereign indebtedness and with respect to undercapitalization of the banks. We have consistently urged our European allies to do so. Europe has the resources to do this and we applaud it for the announced measure. We look forward to the timely implementation of this next action in Europe.

In contrast, of course, we will not be advocating for the use of Canadian tax resources to bail out European banks, unlike the NDP.

The Budget June 11th, 2012

Mr. Speaker, if the member opposite wants to see austerity, then the member ought to look at the United Kingdom and other European countries. Because, quite frankly, of their failure to promote economic growth and their failure to achieve surpluses and balanced budgets over time, they are in the difficult situation, the crisis, they are in today.

We in Canada do not want to go to that place. We want to stay on track, stay on the economic action plan. We do not propose sending billions of Canadian tax dollars to Europe to support European banks, unlike the Leader of the Opposition.
