Mr. Chair, on February 19, 2007, there was an article in the Toronto Star that read:
At one point, AECL concealed safety problems from the watchdog for almost three months
AECL is at fault regarding the cancer patients who have been denied isotopes. It is the root of the problem. Why would we make it the solution? Why should AECL be charged with determining the safety of reactors when it has been so negligent and defiant to meeting standards in the past? Is this not putting the fox in charge of the hen house?

Mr. Chair, my question is for Mr. McGee and/or the AECL representatives. Have they ever concealed any facts from the regulator?
Macedonia October 25th, 2007
Mr. Speaker, on September 20, 2007, the Conservative government decided to recognize the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as the Republic of Macedonia.
The dispute over the use of the name “Macedonia” has been referred to the United Nations. All UN member states have agreed to accept the final agreement resulting from negotiations between Greece and FYROM.
The Prime Minister's decision to unilaterally bypass the process of negotiation endorsed by the UN was done with no consultations in Canada and it threatens to unnecessarily divide Canadians. It is no surprise that the government has not even publicly announced the change. Canadians had to hear about it from a foreign government.
On Saturday, October 27, 2007, thousands of Canadians will rally on Parliament Hill to express their displeasure at this decision. I am issuing an invitation to the Prime Minister to come to the rally and explain his rationale for this misguided decision.
Once again, the Prime Minister is demonstrating his total lack of understanding of international affairs and is pitting one Canadian against another.
Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply October 24th, 2007
Mr. Speaker, just recently the government recognized FYROM as Macedonia. The minister, being of Greek heritage, Cypriot heritage, I wonder if he can speak to the House and tell us what exactly he did in order to prevent this, or does he just go to Greek dinners and says “long live Greece” and then sits idly letting it go by.
Resumption of debate on Address in Reply October 17th, 2007
Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. When I look at the Speech from the Throne it says, “bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act in the British Empire”, “the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Citizenship Act”, “40th anniversary of the Order of Canada”. My point of order is to allow the Prime Minister to explain why the 25th anniversary of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is not in the Speech from the Throne.
Citizenship and Immigration June 14th, 2007
Mr. Speaker, we just heard from Tweedledum. Maybe now we will hear from Tweedledee. In her announcement the minister stated:
--anyone born to a Canadian citizen abroad...is a Canadian citizen and will have their citizenship confirmed if they are the first generation born abroad. But no further.
This dishonest government is denying the birthright of Canadian children if they and their parents were born outside Canada.
When will the Prime Minister recognize that a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian, and stop playing with our children's birthright? When will the Prime Minister instruct this--
Citizenship and Immigration June 14th, 2007
Mr. Speaker, my question is for the Prime Minister. On May 29, 2007, the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration with much fanfare announced her solution to the issue of lost Canadians.
According to the minister, this magic date is January 1, 1947. The second world war ended in 1945. The war babies, children of Canadian servicemen who fought for our freedom, were born before 1947.
When will the Prime Minister instruct this incompetent minister to withdraw the appeal of the Joe Taylor case and recognize Joe Taylor and others like him as Canadian citizens?
Budget Implementation Act, 2007 June 12th, 2007
Mr. Speaker, last week the member voted and spoke against allowing people to come from areas under strife and natural disasters. A protocol was set by the Liberal government, especially after the tsunami and after the earthquake, to expedite family class, as well as spouses, parents and grandparents to come into Canada. The member, who is a member of the government, voted against the committee's recommendation.
I wonder if the member could explain the hypocrisy of the government and certainly the hypocrisy of the Department of Citizenship and Immigration which is going down that route right now.
