Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present, in both official languages, the following two reports of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts: the 30th report entitled “Systemic Barriers—Correctional Service Canada” and the 31st report entitled “Chronic Homelessness”.
Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee requests that the government table a comprehensive response to each of these two reports.
Canada—Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act October 16th, 2023
Madam Speaker, the minister likes to talk about listening and consulting with Atlantic Canadians, and he has talked about the premier of Nova Scotia. I would add the premiers of New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Newfoundland and Labrador when it comes to the carbon tax and the opposition that the government faces.
Just last week, the Supreme Court of Canada found its legislation, Bill C-69, to be unconstitutional. I would think this would give the government and the minister pause when it comes to invoking closure. We should look at these bills properly as parliamentarians and debate them, so the government does not make the same mistake and ram another bill through Parliament that is poorly written and will face challenges down the road.
Your record is awful on bills such as this one. The Supreme Court of Canada just ruled that you rushed it. Why are you now rushing it again?

Madam Speaker, I wonder how Atlantic Canadian Liberals can say they are the ones standing with their voters, when they are the ones punishing them with the carbon tax, which is going to go up another 62¢ between now and 2030; when they have targeted law-abiding firearms owners; when they are not supporting the premiers of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia on funding for the isthmus; and, of course, when they are the ones continuing to vote for higher carbon taxes. I would ask the member to answer that, please.

Madam Speaker, we have cited a few headlines, and here is one that came out four hours ago in the National Post: “Most Canadians want carbon tax reduced or killed: poll”. The articles says, and this is astonishing, “While Alberta typically charts as the most anti-carbon tax jurisdiction in Canada, this time it was Atlantic Canada”, where 50 per cent of respondents want the carbon tax completely eliminated.
The hon. member talked about three cents. In my province of New Brunswick, carbon tax 2 was eight cents plus HST, but we are dealing with numbers that people do not see. Between my province of New Brunswick and Maine, the carbon tax shows just how big the gap in gas prices is. Pump prices in the state of Maine are 50¢ per litre less than they are in New Brunswick. That is all taxes.
My question, member, is this: How can you say Conservatives are not representing Atlantic Canada when you are the one punishing them with these taxes? You oppose the isthmus deal—
Petitions September 27th, 2023
Madam Speaker, I have the honour to present a petition that was collected by residents of Grand Manan Island in my riding. Over 300 people have signed it. After dredging work was done in North Head harbour under DFO contract, the debris was not removed by the contractor, Greenfield Construction. Today, over 35,000 tonnes of toxic rocks dredged from the harbour sit idle next to homes and small businesses. It has been like that for two summers.
It is clear from public documents that the requirements for construction companies bidding on this multi-million dollar debris contract were to remove the dredged material from North Head. Grand Manan Island petitioners are calling on the fisheries minister to quickly clean up this mess.
I would add that it is also important taxpayers are not being swindled again by Atcon/Greenfield, which is well connected to Liberal governments.
Petitions September 25th, 2023
Madam Speaker, I have the honour to present a petition regarding Canada's euthanasia regime, otherwise known as MAID.
The petitioners note that legalizing the state-sanctioned killing of people with mental health challenges will undermine suicide prevention efforts. Consequently, they call on the government to provide treatment and recovery to persons with mental illness.
In addition, they call on the government to reject the proposal to allow for the killing of infants under Canada's euthanasia regime, as was proposed by the Quebec college of physicians.
Carbon Pricing September 18th, 2023
Mr. Speaker, the price differential today for gasoline between the state of Maine and my province of New Brunswick is 60¢ a litre.
For eight years, Liberal MPs have voted to bring in and raise taxes on energy. They also voted to triple the carbon tax between now and 2030. The Prime Minister is not worth the cost. His carbon tax on farmers has raised the price of carrots by 74%.
Will the Prime Minister's big meeting with grocery CEOs bring down the 74% increase before Thanksgiving, yes or no?
The Economy June 12th, 2023
Mr. Speaker, that is absurd. During the pandemic, $200 billion was spent that had nothing to do with helping Canadians. The current government just added another $60 billion to its inflationary bonfire, and it now has deficits for as far as the eye can see.
Canadians are struggling to put food on their tables. They are cancelling their summer vacations because of the Liberal-caused inflation. On our side of the House, we are willing to work all summer to fix and pass a budget that will bring down inflation, bring down deficits, and make home ownership and hard work affordable again.
Will the Prime Minister cancel his summer vacation? Will he get to work, or are surfboard—
The Economy June 12th, 2023
Mr. Speaker, the Liberal government has run massive deficits for eight long years, and, as predicted, inflation has soared, leading to unaffordable mortgage rates for households across this country.
Canadians have the highest household debt in the G7, and today, we now have the highest risk of mortgage default in the OECD nations. The solution is obvious: It is to end deficit spending, stop inflation and help Canadian families.
Will the Prime Minister and his government commit to ending his inflationary spending to prevent a fiscal crisis?

Madam Speaker, that was quite a show we just had from the member.
In my province, we have regulated gas pricing, so we understand locally just how much the taxes and regulations cost consumers. Right now before the province, we see a request to raise the carbon tax by 3.25¢. What is more interesting is that the clean fuel standard is going to add 7.5¢ a litre on July 1. This is the headline of the CBC back home right now: “New Brunswick consumers may face double carbon charges on July 1”. The total is 12.4¢ with the HST, because, of course, with the Liberals it is a tax and another tax, a tax on a tax.
My last point is this. The CTF, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, has said that the tax will be 14¢, and by 2030 will be three times that, at 41¢. That is where we get the “triple, triple, triple”.
With the Liberals, it is all taxes, more taxes and taxes on top of them all the time. What does the member have to say about that?
