[Foreign Affairs, November 6th, 2009]

Mr. Speaker, as I mentioned in my previous response, I did speak with the president. He has reassured me, as well as the minister of state for the Americas, that they will be continuing to keep to the game plan that the previous government had put forward.

We as well as our allies, which are not only involved in building infrastructure, building institutions, policing that country and ensuring that Haitians take over that country, are satisfied with the course of action taking place.

I want to reassure the members of the House that we are satisfied with that course of action as well.

Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for his question.

I can tell the House that I had an opportunity to speak with the President of Haiti last week about the government transition. The Minister of State of Foreign Affairs for the Americas was with me. I can assure the members of the House that the President assured me that he embraces and is completely open to the need for stable government.

We will continue to work with the Haitian government.

[Exploration and Use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes, November 4th, 2009]

Mr. Speaker, lastly, I would like to table a document entitled “Framework Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States of America for Cooperation in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes” done at Washington on September 9, 2009.

[Pacific Coast Albacore Tuna Vessels and Port Privileges, November 4th, 2009]

Mr. Speaker, I would also like to table a document entitled “Exchange of Notes between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States of America concluding amendments to the Treaty between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States of America on Pacific Coast Albacore Tuna Vessels and Port Privileges”, done at Washington on June 12, 2009.

[Civil Aviation Safety, November 4th, 2009]

Mr. Speaker, with leave of the House and pursuant to Standing Order 32(2), I would like to table, in both official languages, a treaty entitled “Agreement on Civil Aviation Safety between Canada and the European Community” signed in Prague on May 6, 2009.

[Iran, October 29th, 2009]

Mr. Speaker, today, at the United Nations General Assembly, Canada will table the toughest resolution on the human rights situation in Iran. This year we are calling on the investigators to focus on Iran's appalling human rights record.

Through our leadership on the world stage, the government is addressing the egregious and systematic violations of human rights the Iranian regime carries out against its own citizens. We take this responsibility very seriously at this time and—

Mr. Speaker, at no time did I say that the defence would have to disclose any type of information that would breach client-solicitor privilege. There are procedures to be followed and the parties are being asked to follow those procedures just like everyone else does when the government covers legal fees.

[Iran, October 28th, 2009]

Mr. Speaker, yesterday I made it clear that Canada is leading the way in the world to make clear that we stand up at the United Nations, that we table and co-sponsor a resolution against Iran's outrageous handling of human rights. We hope that that side of the House supports our actions against Iran.

[Iran, October 27th, 2009]

Mr. Speaker, under this government, on Thursday of this week, Canada will table a strong resolution at the United Nations General Assembly that will continue to take Iran to task for its appalling behaviour in international affairs and the blatant disregard the regime carries out on its own citizens.

Under this government, we will finally stand up with everybody who is supporting us for human rights.

Mr. Speaker, the gobbledygook champion in this House does not sit on this side but on the other side.

I just said that these bills will be paid. There are procedures to be followed; everyone follows them.

I hope that the member will acknowledge the importance of following procedures. At that point, we will be in a position to defray the expenses associated with the individual's defence.
