Madam Speaker, that is just bloody foolish. She just does not—

Carbon Pricing February 16th, 2024

Madam Speaker, the Oxford dictionary defines a fool as a person who acts unwisely or imprudently. It is ironic that the Prime Minister chose April Fool's Day to increase his carbon tax by a whopping 23%, increasing the misery that many Canadian families face. The tax is not a joke.

After eight years of the Prime Minister, and now with his plan to quadruple the carbon tax, he is just not worth the cost.

Will the NDP-Liberal government cancel its April foolish carbon tax increase?

Norman Kwong February 8th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the late Norman Kwong of Calgary will again make history next week when he is celebrated with his own Heritage Minute. A 60-second snapshot of his life will be thrust onto TV screens from coast to coast, injecting culturally historic education into an entertainment segment.

Normie was the hard-working son of Chinese immigrants who had settled in Calgary and ran a grocery store in the early 1900s. He joined the Calgary Stampeders Football Club in 1948, just a year after the Chinese Exclusion Act was repealed, and he became the first player in the CFL of Chinese descent.

He won four Grey Cups in his 12-year career. He was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame. He was named to the Order of Canada and recognized with the Alberta Order of Excellence. He helped bring the Flames to Calgary and is one of five people with their name on both the Grey Cup and Stanley Cup. In 2005, he broke another barrier and became the first Alberta Lieutenant Governor of Chinese descent.

That is a lot to fit into a minute.

Carbon Pricing February 2nd, 2024

Madam Speaker, the current government just does not understand how badly Canadians are struggling, including in my city of Calgary. Statistics Canada recently reported that it costs more to afford basic goods and to live a moderate standard of living in Calgary than in any other major city in Canada. It now costs more to live in Calgary than it does to live in Toronto or Vancouver.

Will the Liberals stop their April 1 carbon tax increase that will make gas, groceries and home heating even more expensive, or will they pile more costs on Calgarians?

Carbon Pricing February 2nd, 2024

Madam Speaker, a tax on a farmer is a tax on food. It is that simple. Canadians know that rising carbon taxes make everything more expensive, and they overwhelmingly know that after eight years the current NDP-Liberal government is not worth the cost. Conservatives know a carbon-tax hike on April 1 will make food even more unaffordable. That is why we put forward a sensible motion to cancel this tax hike.

Do the Liberals even know that their carbon tax hike will continue to drive up the cost of food?

Health November 23rd, 2023

Mr. Speaker, a couple of years ago, this House unanimously passed my private member's bill that allowed for the annual tax form to be used to ask a simple question on organ and tissue donation. Both Ontario and Nunavut opted to have this question included in their tax forms last year, and I am hoping that other provinces will participate in the future.

Can the minister tell us how many taxpayers in Ontario and Nunavut indicated through their tax returns their intent to become life-saving organ and tissue donors?

Enhancing Transparency and Accountability in the Transportation System Act October 27th, 2023

Madam Speaker, I look at this bill, and there are a lot of big promises in it, but it is short on details.

For one thing, the bill proposes to require airport operators to take measures to help Canada meet its international aeronautic obligations. What international obligations is Canada not currently meeting in the standards, and how would this bill improve the air travel experience for Canadians?

Special Olympics Canada Winter Games October 25th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the Olympics are back in Calgary. I was there for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, and I will be there in February for the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.

Qualified athletes from across Canada will compete in eight sports with inspiring enthusiasm. The athletes, together with their families, friends, coaches, officials, mission staff and over 4,000 visitors, will generate significant economic activity for our community.

However, to make this event an absolute success, we need our community to help. Olympic medallist and games co-chair Cheryl Bernard and her team are looking for 1,200 volunteers to help roll out the red carpet and make the events run smoothly.

People can find all the details on their website, calgary2024.specialolympics.ca. There are so many ways to be a part of the volunteer experience. I encourage all Calgarians to consider volunteering so that we can make the games a great success.

Oil and Gas Industry October 17th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, Canada's Supreme Court has verified what Conservatives have been saying for a long time, and that is that the Liberal government is out of line, out of step and out of touch when it comes to respecting provincial jurisdiction.

Its reckless spending is only outdone by its unconstitutional attack on Canada's energy sector, the very sector that we will need to pay off Canada's debt. After eight long, miserable years of this Liberal-NDP government, Canadians know this Prime Minister is not worth the cost.

Will the government, for once, work with Canada's provinces and industry, and commit today to repeal Bill C-69?
