Statements in the House

Business of Supply September 27th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, there have been discussions among the parties, and if you were to seek it, I think you would find unanimous consent to adopt the following motion:

That, at the conclusion of today's debate on the opposition motion in the name of the member for Saskatoon West, all questions necessary to dispose of the motion be deemed put and a recorded division deemed requested and deferred to Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the expiry of the time provided for oral questions.

Accessible Canada Act September 26th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, if I am not mistaken, speeches are limited to 10 minutes at this time, with five minutes for questions and answers. My colleague was therefore not sharing her time.

My question is simple. I often have people who come to my office with some sort of problem. The problem might be related to a lack of services. People never really know what falls under provincial or federal jurisdiction. They come to us even when their problem falls under provincial jurisdiction. People do not always know what they need to do to obtain services.

If people have to go to four different departments on top of that in order to obtain services, what kind of impact is that going to have on those individuals?

Indigenous Affairs September 26th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, indigenous peoples in remote communities are living in third-world conditions. The story that my colleague from Churchill—Keewatinook Aski told is shocking. A mother with two children to look after is living in a house with no bathroom and practically no roof. That is unacceptable in 2018. The Liberals must hear just as many stories like this as we do.

How can they ignore the housing crisis in indigenous communities? When will they implement a targeted strategy?

Business of Supply September 25th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, the situation of our veterans has deteriorated. Veterans are waiting longer and longer to find out whether they are eligible for benefits. This problem started with the Conservatives' budget cuts a few years ago, but things have only gotten worse under the Liberals' watch. Veterans are waiting even longer, despite the Liberals' election promises.

My question is extremely simple. Why is the money that is supposed to be allocated to veterans in the budget not being used to help those veterans, whom the Liberals say they want to help?

Petitions June 20th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, the second petition has to do with the purchase of the Trans Mountain pipeline, which was obviously a shock to Canadians across the country. For example, in my riding of Hochelaga, which is quite far from British Columbia, the petition garnered 600 signatures in under three days.

These petitioners are calling on the Liberal government to reverse its decision to purchase the Trans Mountain pipeline, adopt real measures to invest this money in green energy, and listen to the provinces, first nations, and all of the Canadians who oppose this pipeline.

Petitions June 20th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, I would like to present two petitions today.

The first petition has to do with myalgic encephalomyelitis. This disorder, which currently affects thousands of Canadians, is a devastating nervous system disorder for which there is no effective treatment and that is still little-known in the medical community. There is a lack of funding for research on this disorder.

The petition was signed by nearly 480 people from across Quebec who are calling for increased funding for research to develop treatments that are tailored and accessible to all those with this disorder.

Firearms Act June 20th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, the NDP agrees to apply the vote, it also agrees to wish everyone a good summer, and it will vote yes.

Impact Assessment Act June 20th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, the NDP also agrees to apply the vote and will vote no.

Child Care June 18th, 2018

Mr. Speaker, the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development announced an increase in the Canada child benefit. This is all well and good, but the government cannot fix poverty by mailing out some cheques. In the finance minister's riding, four out of 10 children live in poverty. A generous benefit helps, yes, but all families also need access to affordable day care.

When will we see affordable day care?

Madam Speaker, something stinks. In 2017, the Prime Minister was awarded the global energy and environment leadership award by the world's largest oil companies. I think that is a clear sign that the government is putting oil extraction ahead of the environment. I would like to know when that will stop.
