Statements in the House

Canadian Heritage May 1st, 2023

Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question and excellent work.

This is a great moment, a very great moment. Web giants will now have to contribute to our culture. They will have to promote it. They will have to pay their fair share.

A big thank you to the cultural sector, who has fought for years, and a big thank you to my Liberal, Bloc Québécois and NPD colleagues and to the senators. This is a great moment for Canada.

Democratic Institutions May 1st, 2023

Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for mentioning our convention. Thousands of Liberals will be coming from across the country to talk about the future of our country and take the time to reflect about government.

Once again, instead of debating issues vital to the development of our society and preparing the future of our children, the Bloc wants to come to the House and talk about constitutional change.

The Bloc Québécois has one obsession: Canada's Constitution. Our obsession is to make our society better.

Democratic Institutions May 1st, 2023

Mr. Speaker, today we have the option of discussing the fight against climate change, health, dental care and ways to help our seniors and our families, but the Bloc Québécois has different priorities. Its priority is the monarchy, a constitutional review and days, weeks and months of sitting down with everyone here to debate the issue.

It might be the Bloc Québécois's priority, but it is not the priority of Quebeckers or Canadians.

Official Languages April 28th, 2023

Madam Speaker, we are investing in many ways to strengthen French. We are investing in our official languages plan and we are investing in culture, more specifically in television production, literature and elsewhere.

That being said, I repeat that the Bloc Québécois should be a bit more open-minded and stop trying to pit anglophones and francophones against each other. I would like them to understand something once and for all: Whether anglophone or francophone, we are all Quebeckers.

Official Languages April 28th, 2023

Madam Speaker, I will ask the Bloc Québécois to be more open-minded. It is quite possible to defend French, and defend it vigorously, without attacking, offending, intimidating and criticizing the anglophone community. Whether we are anglophone or francophone, we are all Quebeckers.

Mr. Speaker, maybe they will understand what Chantal Hébert said. She said that she has been in the building three times for round tables organized by the Clerk of the Privy Council with deputy ministers. In all those years, she has never met the current Prime Minister.

She said that it was entirely possible that the Prime Minister did not even know about this meeting with deputy ministers, because it was none of his business; it was not his political staff.

I wonder if the Bloc thinks Chantal Hébert is part of the conspiracy too.

Democratic Institutions April 24th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, here is what Chantal Hébert said this morning, and I am paraphrasing: I have been to the Langevin Block three times. All three times, it was for round tables organized by the Clerk of the Privy Council with deputy ministers. I have never met the current Prime Minister. It is entirely possible that the Prime Minister did not even know that the meeting with deputy ministers had taken place. It had nothing to do with him. It was not his political staff.

Are the Conservatives saying that Chantal Hébert is also part of the conspiracy?

Ethics April 20th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, we have answered that question many times.

However, the real question is for my colleague, a former CBC/Radio‑Canada journalist. Does she agree with the opposition's intention to silence our public broadcaster? It amounts to an attack on information, on journalism and, consequently, an attack on our democracy. Does she agree with that?

Natural Resources March 29th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the Bloc Québécois constantly acts like the mother-in-law who is never satisfied and who is constantly pouting.

We invest in people in need, they pout. We invest in the environment, they pout. We invest in society as a whole, they pout. They are constantly pouting.

Instead, they should be happy that we are investing in health, dental care, the environment, and support to buy groceries.

That is a government that takes action.

Finance March 28th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the Bloc is attacking the office. It is attacking the federation. It is attacking Canada. It is attacking things we all hold most dear.

The Bloc members are obviously here to promote sovereignty, to pick fights whenever possible and ensure that nothing works. Unfortunately for them, Quebeckers are very happy to be part of Canada and we intend to stay that way.
