Statements in the House

Official Languages April 28th, 2023

Madam Speaker, I will ask the Bloc Québécois to be more open-minded. It is quite possible to defend French, and defend it vigorously, without attacking, offending, intimidating and criticizing the anglophone community. Whether we are anglophone or francophone, we are all Quebeckers.

Mr. Speaker, maybe they will understand what Chantal Hébert said. She said that she has been in the building three times for round tables organized by the Clerk of the Privy Council with deputy ministers. In all those years, she has never met the current Prime Minister.

She said that it was entirely possible that the Prime Minister did not even know about this meeting with deputy ministers, because it was none of his business; it was not his political staff.

I wonder if the Bloc thinks Chantal Hébert is part of the conspiracy too.

Mr. Speaker, here is what Chantal Hébert said this morning, and I am paraphrasing: I have been to the Langevin Block three times. All three times, it was for round tables organized by the Clerk of the Privy Council with deputy ministers. I have never met the current Prime Minister. It is entirely possible that the Prime Minister did not even know that the meeting with deputy ministers had taken place. It had nothing to do with him. It was not his political staff.

Are the Conservatives saying that Chantal Hébert is also part of the conspiracy?

Ethics April 20th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, we have answered that question many times.

However, the real question is for my colleague, a former CBC/Radio‑Canada journalist. Does she agree with the opposition's intention to silence our public broadcaster? It amounts to an attack on information, on journalism and, consequently, an attack on our democracy. Does she agree with that?

Oil and Gas Industry March 29th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the Bloc Québécois constantly acts like the mother-in-law who is never satisfied and who is constantly pouting.

We invest in people in need, they pout. We invest in the environment, they pout. We invest in society as a whole, they pout. They are constantly pouting.

Instead, they should be happy that we are investing in health, dental care, the environment, and support to buy groceries.

That is a government that takes action.

Finance March 28th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the Bloc is attacking the office. It is attacking the federation. It is attacking Canada. It is attacking things we all hold most dear.

The Bloc members are obviously here to promote sovereignty, to pick fights whenever possible and ensure that nothing works. Unfortunately for them, Quebeckers are very happy to be part of Canada and we intend to stay that way.

Finance March 28th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, if my colleague were to look at the numbers and compare them, she would see that the cost of that tour was the same, on average, as other tours.

Obviously, we are going to do everything we can to keep costs down and to make sure that these tours cost as little as possible every time.

Canadian Heritage March 21st, 2023

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague for her great work.

The online streaming bill is very clear. It would make tech giants pay their fair share to Canadian culture, but some tech giants do not want to do that. The Conservatives are trying to make this about free speech, but it is written in black and white in the bill. It has nothing to do with what people post online. It is about the biggest companies in the world contributing to our music, our movies and our television. It is about creating the next generation of great Canadian artists.

Let us stand up for them and pass Bill C-11.

Democratic Institutions March 21st, 2023

Mr. Speaker, my colleague does not get too hung up on the truth. Making up facts does not seem to bother him all that much.

The Prime Minister has been very clear. This will not be a confidence vote. He said so this morning, as reported by all the papers. It is clear.

If the Bloc Québécois is just trying to pick a fight, stir the pot and impede our work here, it could at least stick to the facts instead of making things up all the time.

Canadian Heritage March 9th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question and, once again, for his work on Bill C‑11. It is an important bill.

I have had several opportunities to have discussions with my Quebec counterpart. The Government of Canada will obviously have discussions with Quebec and will consult it throughout the process. It is important for us, as Quebeckers, and I would also say that it is important for all Canadians.

This bill will strengthen our cultural, music, television and film sectors. Despite the Conservative filibuster, despite roadblocks and the lack of respect for culture, we will move forward.
