Statements in the House

The Economy February 16th, 2022

Mr. Speaker, inflation is at 5.1%, its highest level since 1991. Last week I received a letter from a constituent, who said, “I just got a natural gas bill in the mail. I have never seen my gas bill go over $350 a month. For this month it was $645, and $120 was for the carbon tax for the feds to squander. It's a tax grab and I'm upset. I'm on a limited and fixed budget. This hurts me financially. I know the Prime Minister could care less about me and my family. He figures my budget will balance itself. I love our country, but my family just cannot afford him and the Liberals. Sorry for venting. I have to go and figure out how to pay my bill for the month.”

Business of Supply February 8th, 2022

Madam Speaker, we have heard so many questions about nothing coming from the government side on this, which confuses us. Where does the government stand on this very fair and just motion?

What did the member gather from the government's position on this important motion?

Business of Supply February 8th, 2022

Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for supporting this motion. It is a matter of fairness and justice. It is a matter of fairness to the provinces, especially to Saskatchewan. That is what the motion is asking for.

Does the member agree with that?

Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021 February 4th, 2022

Mr. Speaker, the member must smarten up today. He is being unreasonable and that is not acceptable

Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021 February 4th, 2022

Mr. Speaker, I congratulate my colleague from Edmonton Strathcona on her speech, which touched on many points. One item I was hoping she would talk about is the housing crisis. Right now, we basically have a housing economy. The economy is run by the real estate industry, which is very dangerous for seniors, health care transfers and education. Everything has been affected by this crisis.

Does she agree that the government is just sitting on the sidelines and watching what is happening in what I call the biggest economic massacre in Canada?

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply January 31st, 2022

Madam Speaker, there is never a conversation with friends here in Ottawa or back home where the housing crisis does not come up. People are confused, concerned and not happy. Even if the value of their homes is increasing, they are not happy because they are scared. The first question they ask is what the government is doing about it.

To my hon. colleague, what is the government doing about the housing crisis?

Questions on the Order Paper January 31st, 2022

With regard to government analysis on the impact of the Bank of Canada's low inflation target on the Alberta economy: (a) has the government done any projections on the impact of maintaining the low inflation target on Alberta's economy, and, if so, what are the results of such projections, broken down by economic indicator; and (b) has the government done any projections on the impact of abandoning the low inflation target on Alberta's economy, and, if so, what are the results of such projections, broken down by economic indicator?

Edmonton Manning December 15th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, I wish to thank the people of Edmonton Manning for once again putting their trust in me as their representative in Ottawa. It is a privilege to work on their behalf.

During the election campaign, Edmonton Manning residents asked me why the government was not addressing the rising cost of living, especially given the impact on families and seniors. Edmontonians want us, as parliamentarians, to turn our attention to meeting the basic economic needs of Canadians. They do not want politicians using the COVID-19 pandemic for political gain. They are tired of arguments over who is or is not vaccinated. They want parliamentarians to unite to fight this pandemic, move beyond personalities and get Canada back on track.

Let us all in the House listen to their words and act on them.

Business of Supply December 7th, 2021

Madam Speaker, we heard a speech from the Bloc Québécois that was a nice jump between different planets, but at the end of the day, it looks like we landed on planet earth.

Considering the agreement we just had on the amendment submitted from the Bloc Québécois, does the hon. member think the government will support this motion, yes or no?

Criminal Code December 6th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, I congratulate my friend from Essex on his re-election.

What I heard in his speech was a message of unity dealing with the challenges we are all facing together as a country. If he could somehow elaborate on that, it would be great.
