Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  The Province of Ontario lost the jobs that the hon. member was referring to during the Harper administration. I want to know who is correct. Are Doug Ford and the Progressive Conservatives correct in saying they and we have created, collaboratively, hundreds of thousands of jobs in Ontario, or is Doug Ford wrong? I have one final question: What programs is the hon. member mentioning that the Conservatives will cut?

Pharmacare Act  We see the record of Conservatives in province after province of undermining, threatening and attacking public health care, and here they are, standing up in the House day after day, attacking pharmacare. At least with Doug Ford, we know we are going to get a can of beer out of it. With the Conservatives, we are going to get totally rooked.

Pharmacare Act  Mr. Speaker, I am sure the member knows my view on Doug Ford's government and how we can be better served in Ontario. When I was knocking on doors in the last election, one of the messages that I heard repeatedly from my constituents was to work with all members of this House, all political parties.

Pharmacare Act  He will remember when we worked together to create OHIP+, which started providing universal access to pharmacare for young people, which was a game-changer. It was unfortunate that Doug Ford gutted that program. The member for Don Valley East is absolutely right. Our number one job and responsibility to Canadians is to make sure that we make their lives easier, and the way we make their lives easier, whether it is affordable child care or seniors being able to access a dentist or dental hygienist to look after their oral care, is to have programs available to make their lives better.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, in Ontario, the Conservative government under Doug Ford scrapped the cap-and-trade system we had. It cost billions of dollars to get out of the agreement that had been made and that was functioning very strongly. Now we have a carbon tax, rather than that system.

Business of Supply  Patients are receiving terrible care in Ontario. Can the minister tell the House why the Prime Minister was praising Doug Ford's approach on health care when things are getting so much worse in Ontario?

Official Languages committee  In Ontario, we've had governments like the Mike Harris government, which drastically cut services to francophones. The Doug Ford government eliminated the position of French Language Services Commissioner, as well as a number of services for francophones in Ontario. As francophones here in Ontario, we work hard to ensure that our rights are respected.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  There is government subsidy that is going there, and it is not only federal government subsidy but also a provincial subsidy coming from Doug Ford, who is a Progressive Conservative. Does the member believe that Doug Ford should also be criticized? If he is criticizing the federal government, and the “Reform Party” across the way does not support this investment, would the member then be consistent and say that Doug Ford was wrong also?

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  We can talk about Stellantis, Honda and Volkswagen. The current government, working with Doug Ford in this particular case, has actually had substantial investment in an industry that was virtually non-existent in the past. It will be providing tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs into the future.

Health committee  Kitchen, I can share with you my personal experience being a member of the provincial Parliament at that time in Ontario in terms of the impact it made—and the lack of it once Doug Ford's government took away that option, that choice, and the suffering lots of people faced. I'll go to Ms. Silas. It's good to see you again. Thank you for your hard work and advocacy.

Natural Resources committee  On Ontario, I'll quote this: Five years ago, the Ontario Tory government spent nearly $300 million to end hundreds of renewable electricity projects the previous Liberal government had launched. Premier Doug Ford said the power wasn't needed and that wind power was destroying the province's energy system. It's a funny thing. It goes on: Last week...Ontario Energy Minister Todd Smith outlined a power plan that includes billions in new nuclear projects as well as a return to wind and solar projects the government once called a waste of money.

Health committee  I spent time working at the provincial level in the parliament in Ontario, where we brought in pharmacare legislation, a program called OHIP+. I was very disappointed when I saw the Conservative government of Doug Ford gut that legislation, denying so many Ontarians access to important life-saving medication, so I'm thrilled that at the federal level we are coming in with the national pharmacare plan.

Human Resources committee  We know you're cutting deals with cities, but what about municipalities that are smaller? Doug Ford is not going to come up and do anything for our northern communities, but the communities are ready to go.

Information & Ethics committee  Well, I guess there was a bit of backlash. He talked a good game, but he didn't do anything about it when Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, talked about it, and when the Premier of Quebec talked about it. This is something that is law in this country. For all the non-lawyers on the Liberal bench, I invite them all to take the time, which would probably be less than two minutes, to actually read section 33 of the charter.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  One of the things we are really worried about in this over $6-billion program throughout the country is making sure provinces do not take the opportunity with the disability benefit to say that the feds are giving $200 so they can claw back $200. It would never be as direct as that. Doug Ford in Ontario is not going to say that the feds are giving $200, so they are going to claw back. The way they would most likely do it is that they would freeze the supports and then they would let inflation slowly creep up and replace that $200.
