Democratic Reform  We are seeing this again now. He is trying to demonize Elections Canada and attack the credibility of Sheila Fraser. Sheila Fraser deserves our country's thanks. She stood up against Liberal corruption, and she is getting shameful treatment by the Conservatives. Will the minister now stand up and apologize to Sheila Fraser for his inappropriate comments?

Procedure and House Affairs committee  I don't think it's something I'm content to trust the government on at all. When former auditor general Sheila Fraser appeared she'd had a lot of concerns expressed elsewhere, including in the Senate, and she came before us with two major concerns. This was one of them. I don't think I have to remind everybody about the thoughtfulness that usually goes into what Sheila Fraser has to say, especially in an area dealing with money and accountability.

Business of Supply  This legislation, Bill C-23, to which the motion today relates, has to be placed in the wider context. That is the fact that the former auditor general, Sheila Fraser, stated that the government would undermine the credibility of virtually every arm's length agency of the government that performs any kind of oversight. Ms. Fraser said, according to The Globe and Mail of April 9, that the attack on Mr.

Business of Supply  The Prime Minister is not even willing to stand in the House and answer questions. His minister is not even willing to evoke the name of Sheila Fraser, to mention her name, and instead condemns her and tries to attack both her and the Chief Electoral Officer. Therefore, there is no doubt that the travesty of the unfair elections act, now spreading across the country, is something that needs to be dealt with.

Democratic Reform  Why does the Prime Minister no longer respect Sheila Fraser? Is it because she is now helping expose Conservative dirty dealing?

Democratic Reform  Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives once praised Sheila Fraser. Now they target her for payback. The Conservatives have become everything that they used to hate. This weekend, Sheila Fraser said: “I think it will be very troubling if we see a lot people being turned away at the polls. [...]

Democratic Reform  Speaker, the President of the Treasury Board recently referred to former auditor general Sheila Fraser as “a self-proclaimed expert” on elections law. He went on to suggest that Ms. Fraser was somehow biased because of her work with Elections Canada. Does the Minister of State for Democratic Reform agree with the President of the Treasury Board in his attacks on her, and does he think Sheila Fraser is somehow biased?

Democratic Reform  The fact that she is on the Elections Canada board should not prevent her from freely criticizing a lousy bill. Will the Conservatives be as willing to listen to Sheila Fraser on this issue as they were when she submitted her report on the sponsorship scandal?

Democratic Reform  Sheila Fraser is warning Canadians, saying this is “an attack on our democracy”. Will the minister stop attacking this Canadian hero and start listening to her sensible advice?

Democratic Reform  Mr. Speaker, Sheila Fraser has said that the unfair elections act will exacerbate problems with money in politics, despite the minister's absurd and contradictory rhetoric about this bill somehow taking big money out.

Democratic Reform  Today, he is acting as though she does not even exist. Will the minister listen to Sheila Fraser and withdraw his bill?

Democratic Reform  Speaker, the fact is that the list of those opposing the bill is growing and growing: chief electoral officers, electoral commissioners, experts of every political stripe, and now, Sheila Fraser. Yes, the same person the Conservatives once praised for exposing the Liberal sponsorship scandal is calling out this bill as an “attack on our democracy”. Would the minister listen to her, Sheila Fraser, or will he act like the Liberals did and start attacking Ms.

Democratic Reform  Mr. Speaker, I have been listening to the Minister of State for Democratic Reform ignore Sheila Fraser's serious warning, and I just cannot get over it, especially coming from the man who used the name of the former auditor general 65 times in the House to bash the Liberals, and rightly so.

Democratic Reform  Will the government listen to Sheila Fraser, withdraw its bill and go back to the drawing board?

Democratic Reform  The only problem is that the current and former Chief Electoral Officers, the current and former Commissioners of Canada Elections, and provincial elections officials are against this reform. Today, it was Sheila Fraser who talked about Bill C-23 as an attack on our democracy. Is Sheila Fraser going to be treated like all the other officers of Parliament and experts who have criticized this reform?
