Taxation  Speaker, it should come as no surprise that our Conservative government is the only one that stands up for middle-class Canadian families. We have doubled the children's fitness tax credit, enhanced the universal child care benefit, and now have implemented the family tax cut. All families with children, including single-parent families, would benefit from our family tax cut and enhanced universal child care benefit.

Ethics  They decide to sit around the table and one says to the others, “How can we take money out of the pockets of middle-class Canadians?” Actually, it is not a joke because it is reality. It is they who want to take millions of dollars from Canadians' pockets. We are going to do just the opposite. We are going to continue to fight to keep money in Canadians' pockets every single day, and focus on jobs and economic growth because that is what we do.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, our government is cutting taxes for hard-working middle-class Canadians with our family tax cut and the universal child care benefit. Our low-tax plan for families is working and we are ensuring 100% of families with kids will benefit with almost $2,000 back in their pockets.

Business of the House  Regrettably, the Liberal leader, earlier this week, announced that he would raise taxes for middle-class Canadians by replacing that very same family tax cut with a family tax hike, and despite this Liberal tax, the Liberal leader is discovering that budgets do not balance themselves. He has a $2 billion hole in his plan.

Consumer Protection  First, that much-vaunted code of conduct is a voluntary code of conduct. The big five banks have all said that in a few weeks, middle-class Canadians will face more pay-to-pay fees, and these are even worse than the ones the NDP forced the government to act upon last year. This is a basic issue of fairness. Does the minister really think it is fair that banks charge their customers a fee just to make a mortgage payment, a credit card payment, a student loan payment?

Taxation  This does not help the middle class. Only our Conservative has a plan that will help middle-class Canadians keep money in their pockets.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, our government is cutting taxes for hard-working middle-class Canadians with our family tax cut and the universal child care benefit. Our low-tax plan for families in Selkirk—Interlake is working. We are ensuring that 100% of families with kids benefit with almost $2,000 back in their pockets for each child who is in preschool and $720 per child from ages 6 to 17.

Taxation  We know what Liberals do when they have multibillion-dollar financial holes. They raise taxes on middle-class Canadians. They already admit that they are going to raise taxes by cancelling income splitting for families. They will do that to seniors, too.

Taxation  The only way they could pay the price of those promises is by raising taxes on the middle class. That is why middle-class Canadians will elect this government.

Taxation  With the Liberal leader's opposition to income-splitting for families, we can be sure he will also cancel income-splitting for seniors. Middle class Canadian families know they can trust the Prime Minister and our Conservative government to keep their taxes low and to protect the benefits they already receive.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, our government makes no apologies for ensuring middle class Canadians are aware of the measures that put more money back in their pockets. For example, we want Canadians to know about the new family tax cut and enhanced universal child care benefit, which will benefit 100% of families with children, the vast majority of benefits going to low and middle-income families The Liberal leader's plan will do the exact opposite.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, our government's low-tax plan is helping middle-class Canadian families balance their budgets while we balance ours. That is why we have introduced the family tax cut and enhanced universal child care benefit. Would the Minister of Employment and Social Development please tell this House about the important announcement he made Friday on keeping more money in the pockets of hard-working Canadian families?

Housing  We have our homelessness partnering strategy to address that need. We are making life more affordable for middle-class Canadians so that they can afford the rent and the housing in the regions that they live in. That is increasing the universal child care benefit for all families with children under the age of 18, that is family tax cuts, as well as supports for families who are vulnerable.

Manufacturing Industry  Speaker, last week, another 1,000 auto workers were told they would be out of a job, tragically joining the more than 400,000 manufacturing workers in this country who have lost their jobs just since the Conservatives took office. Yet rather than helping out working- and middle-class Canadians, the Conservatives are stubbornly insisting on maintaining a $700-million tax loophole for CEOs. Conservatives believe in income splitting for the wealthiest 15%; New Democrats believe in affordable childcare.
