Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, my colleague's speech was interesting. Something about it took me a little by surprise, however: the Conservative Party's sudden interest in helping small and medium-sized businesses. During its time in power, it did absolutely nothing to cut small business taxes as the NDP requested.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for his speech. I was especially interested in two things he touched on: the situation of Canadian students and that of seniors. I want to ask the member a question about that. Increasing the guaranteed income supplement for our seniors is a good thing and a positive step, but would it not be preferable to automatically sign up people when their income is below a certain amount?

Canada Post  Mr. Speaker, what people want is their mail delivered to their home. That is it. The Liberals promised to restore home mail delivery, not to put everything on the table. We are talking about a basic public service. Moreover, it is profitable and does not cost a cent in taxes.

Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie  Mr. Speaker, I am blown away every day by the innovation and resourcefulness of the people of Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie. The people who live on the laneway between Bordeaux and Chabot, near Bellechasse, have undertaken a project unlike any other. They are heating and cooling their homes using geothermal energy.

Public Service Labour Relations Act  Mr. Speaker, I am rising to respond to my Conservative colleague's comments. As part of the union accreditation process, secret ballot voting is always a tactic used by employers or management to lower the success rate of the unionization process. Signing a membership card respects the rights of individuals who want to become part of a union that will represent their interests and who want to have the ability to negotiate a collective agreement.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 1.  No, not so-called, a real socialist.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 1.  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech. We have not had an opportunity to debate for a long time. I pinch myself a little when I hear a Conservative say he is concerned about social justice and the disadvantaged in our society after his government gave billions of dollars in gifts to big banks, big corporations, and oil companies all over the country.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 1.  Mr. Speaker, I listened with interest to the speech by my hon. colleague from Beauce, although I was not particularly surprised at it. We are still in the imaginary world of libertarian phantasmagoria. I would remind my colleague that while private enterprise has a role to play and creates wealth and jobs, that is also because there is public infrastructure and companies and entrepreneurs can benefit from an educated and well cared-for population that has roads, highways, and clean water in the morning.

Quebec  Mr. Speaker, this is what happens when we need the Liberals from Quebec: “Hello. You have reached the Liberal Party. All our members are currently hiding. Please stay on the line. Your call is important to us.” Can someone tell me what good the 40 Liberal members from Quebec are?

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I want to thank my colleague for her very touching and personal speech and the concrete examples she shared. My question has to do with the specific case of people who have degenerative diseases. The special joint committee recommended that these individuals be able to state their final wishes through advance written directives, while they still have the legal capacity to make decisions.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, today's debate is critical. It is extremely important. It affects everyone, and it gives rise to both hopes and fears in our communities. The NDP thinks that we need to listen to the experts, and it also wants the government's bill to measure up to the Supreme Court's decision in Carter.

Air Canada Public Participation Act  Madam Speaker, what the Liberals are imposing on us and on 2,600 families is outrageous. I am proud of my colleagues, proud that we are here fighting this bill. When the Conservatives got a majority in 2011, the first thing they did was crush the postal workers' union. Now we have a Liberal government, and the first thing the Liberals are doing is crushing the Air Canada workers who lost their jobs.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech. The Conservatives certainly have no shortage of moxie, or at least they have a sense of humour. They are casting stones at the new Liberal government, when there were all kinds of scandals in recent years. There was Dean Del Mastro, the in and out scheme, the RCMP in the Conservative Party's offices, Pamela Wallin, Mike Duffy, and I could go on.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague from Drummond for his excellent and relevant comments. I am also sad that scandals keep popping up one after the other. We have gone from Tory scandals to Liberal ones. I also want to congratulate my colleague for his work on the official languages file and for introducing a bill to require Supreme Court judges to be bilingual.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for the question. We share the same concerns about having topical, constructive debates to help us move forward to resolve certain problems. We can and must improve many things together. I am talking about things that affect our constituents, everything from rail safety, protecting dairy farmers, and public transit, to our aging infrastructure.
