Religious Freedom  Ibrahima Barry, Mamadou Tanou Barry, Khaled Belkacemi, Abdelkrim Hassane, Azzeddine Soufiane and Aboubaker Thatbi were fathers, husbands, brothers and loved ones. They were targeted simply because of their faith, simply because they were Muslim. Unfortunately, Canada has also seen an alarming rise in discrimination as a result of the conflict in Gaza. People who are Muslim, Palestinian and Arab feel what is happening intensely.

Foreign Affairs  When it comes to Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian hate crimes, the Liberals have failed to stop it here in Canada. The community feels so betrayed that yesterday, the National Council of Canadian Muslims cancelled their meeting with the Prime Minister because they are tired of his broken lies—

Committees of the House  I want to extend my condolences to the families and the members of that community who are still dealing with the pain of that, to all those throughout the country who have been profoundly affected by that event and to those who are deeply concerned about Islamophobia today. I had many conversations today with members of the Muslim community about the challenge of present Islamophobia and about some of the escalating tension and division we are seeing in our society. In the course of those conversations, I had an opportunity to reflect a little on the importance of integrity.

Justice  Speaker, hate led to the murder of six worshippers at the Quebec City mosque seven years ago today. They were killed in cold blood because they were Muslim. The perpetrator of this Islamophobic terrorism was influenced by hate, which continues to multiply online. The Prime Minister promised to take action to combat online hate within his first 100 days in office.

Religious Freedom  Driven by fear and hate, he committed an unspeakable act. He coldly and methodically killed people because they were Muslim. This reminds us that words and speech are important. Every word has power. We have a collective responsibility to fight Islamophobia and all forms of racism and dehumanization of any group of people.

Foreign Affairs  Madam Speaker, we mourn the lives lost in a Quebec mosque seven years ago today and recognize the trauma suffered by Canada's Muslim community on account of Islamophobia. We also mourn the tens of thousands of civilians, including thousands of innocent children, who have been killed by Israel in Gaza. The majority of Gaza's traumatized surviving population has been displaced and needs humanitarian intervention.

Canadian Heritage committee  I would like to start with Ms. Donovan. One of the prevailing concerns in many communities, particularly among Muslims, Jews and communities of colour, has been the way online platforms, particularly X, Facebook, Instagram and others, have been used as breeding grounds or an amplification force for extreme hateful views.

Transport committee  I'll just continue on here: The groups and expert individuals campaigning to fix Bill C-26 are: the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the Canadian Constitution Foundation, the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group, Ligue des Droits et Libertés, the National Council of Canadian Muslims, OpenMedia, the Privacy and Access Council of Canada, Professor Andrew Clement, and Dr Brenda McPhail. It ends with a quote here. It says: “Today's report should set alarm bells ringing on Parliament Hill.

Committees of the House  The motion before us is timely because the Taliban's ambassador has just been accepted and received in Beijing, as both sides cultivate ties with each other based on shared antipathy toward the west, shared disdain for international human rights norms and a narrow calculation of immediate interests. Formally speaking, it does not make sense that an ostensibly Muslim organization would aggressively court a regime currently committing genocide and seeking to replace in their homeland the Muslim Uyghur people, but the new cold war reality is one in which authoritarian powers notionally conflicting ideologies co-operate against the west, not for ideology but for power.

Committees of the House  The Hazaras, an ethnic minority, have faced relentless discrimination, violence and persecution for decades. Their distinct features and Shia Muslim beliefs have made them a target for extremist groups like the Taliban. Tragically, the Hazara community has borne the brunt of targeted attacks, including bombings, abductions and massacres.

Foreign Affairs committee  You may not know that, but Canada's position in many of our large organizations, like la Francophonie and the Commonwealth, is still quite strong. I would also suggest that, when the leaders of the initiative from the Gulf and Arab Muslim states approached the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and went to the presidency of the EU, Spain, they added Canada. Of their mission around the world, they looked at the five large powers of the permanent members, as well as Canada and Spain, as the presidency of EU.

Justice committee  Again, I speak as somebody who is a member of the Jewish community and has a riding in which over 30% of the people are from the Jewish community. That's true of people in the small Muslim community in my riding. The mosques are worried, too. Ms. Dhillon was talking to me about how her Sikh community feels in certain parts of this country. There is no harm in doing this.

Justice committee  In fact, such acts have been going on for a long time. I personally find them abhorrent. The same goes for acts against Muslims or any other religion. Religions should encourage us to unite and work together in harmony. I don't want to use clichés, but I would say that they should encourage us to love one another rather than seek to harm, hurt or kill one another.

Justice committee  I've spoken to people of faith within the communities I represent, where they have felt persecuted. This is across the spectrum, with those in the Jewish community, in the Muslim community and in the Christian community, and with those without a faith. They have felt a level of an erosion of the faith that we have traditionally had in the freedoms we enjoy in this country.

Justice committee  We've seen churches burned down. We've seen Sikhs face harassment and discrimination. We've seen innocent Muslims murdered in their places of worship. We've seen Hindu temples vandalized. These shameful acts have one goal, to terrorize Canadians. This cannot be tolerated. All Canadians must be able to freely live their lives and follow their dreams without fear and intimidation.
