Labour  Mr. Speaker, a union is made up of workers. When you attack a union, you attack workers. What do they have against workers? Information provided by the Commissioner of Lobbying proves that Bill C-377 is actually a government bill disguised as a private member's bill. The member for South Surrey—White Rock—Cloverdale met with none other than the Prime Minister's former chief of staff, the incomparable Nigel Wright, on this matter.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, as the scandals pile up, the Conservatives are continuing with operation camouflage. Senators may be lounging in luxury at taxpayers’ expense, falsifying their residence claims, inflating their travel expenses and cashing in $90,000 cheques from the Prime Minister’s Office, but the Conservatives keep repeating that they saw nothing and knew nothing, that they did not do it and that the guilty party acted alone.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, we have so much respect for taxpayers that we want to save them $100 million, not by reforming the Senate, but by abolishing it. Here is a partial list of Conservative members who expressed disappointment regarding the Senate expense scandal: the member for Dufferin—Caledon, the member for Calgary Centre-North, the member for Prince George—Peace River, the deputy House leader, and of course, the Prime Minister.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, once again, they are not answering questions. How absolutely fascinating. Those guys are all like ex-mayor Tremblay: none of them ever know anything. Senators Duffy, Brazeau and Wallin were all appointed by the Prime Minister. He appointed them, so he is responsible for them.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, this is the Conservatives' vision: when the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons found out about the Mike Duffy scandal, he said that Nigel Wright had shown leadership by writing a $90,000 cheque. That is the Conservative Party. Let us come back to the Senate.

41st General Election  Mr. Speaker, the NDP has received thank you letters from Elections Canada. The Conservatives have received a visit from the RCMP. That is the difference. They repeated over and over their famous line that they would fully co-operate with Elections Canada on the robocall file. However, Justice Mosley saw things differently.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister's leadership involved putting all his trust in his chief of staff. Carolyn Stewart Olsen, who doctored the Senate report, is the Prime Minister's former director of communications. She worked closely with the Prime Minister's former executive assistant, Ray Novak, his new chief of staff.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, the RCMP is also looking into the matter, thanks to the NDP. I understand that the Prime Minister may have asked Mr. Wright to deal with the incident involving Mr. Duffy, which means that the Prime Minister might be involved in the cover-up. In any case, he expressed his confidence in Mr.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, he is once again unable to answer because he did not see the deal. Can we talk to someone who saw this deal and who knows what happened between the chief of staff and Mike Duffy in the Prime Minister's office? The Conservatives claim that the Prime Minister was not aware of this situation until it was reported in the media.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, I believe that they are allergic to the idea of answering questions. That must be the case or else they must be completely out to lunch and have no idea what happened in their boss's office. Enough beating around the bush. Senator Duffy received $90,000. Three other senators are currently under investigation for the misuse of public funds.

Request for Emergency Debate  Mr. Speaker, the official opposition's motion also calls for an emergency debate on the Senate scandal and on the involvement of the Prime Minister's former chief of staff in repaying what were likely fraudulent expense claims made by a Conservative senator appointed by the Prime Minister.

Employment  Mr. Speaker, first there was the RCMP visit to Conservative offices and the in and out scandal, and now things keep getting worse for the Conservative government. Here is another one of their schemes: the airwaves are now inundated with ads touting a jobs program that does not even exist yet.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, in a one-year period, the Prime Minister has lost three ministers, two senators and one chief of staff to scandals. The Conservatives promised to clean house in Ottawa, but it turns out that they are just as crooked as the Liberals before them. The only way for the Conservatives to get out of this is to start telling the truth instead of claiming in unison that they are upset.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the member for his speech, even if I do not agree with his analysis or conclusion. I would like to share a story that will strike a chord with any parent. Last winter, I asked my son where his other mitten was. Children are always losing their mittens in winter.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I would like to congratulate my NDP colleague from Pontiac on his excellent speech and excellent initiative. He has moved a motion that asks a fairly simple question: where has taxpayers' money gone? How can the Conservative government lose $3.1 billion and not know what happened to it?
