Ethics  Mr. Speaker, $130,000 in fraudulent claims is shameful, and the Conservatives need to take this situation more seriously. On Thursday morning, the senators will hold a little meeting to decide whether they should hand over the reports on this attempted fraud to the RCMP. Fellow senators are responsible for deciding whether a senator—Liberal or Conservative—should be charged with fraud.

Economic Action Plan 2013 Act, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, I listened carefully to the Conservative member's shameful speech. It is appropriate that he should speak about King James II, since, if hon. members listen carefully to what he is saying, they will realize that the Conservative member wants to take us back to the Middle Ages, a time when workers were overburdened by their employers, employers disbanded labour organizations, and workers had to work 14 hours a day in poor working conditions and did not have any rights.

Labour  Mr. Speaker, as we know, the Conservatives are against Canada's millions of unionized workers and their rights, which they systematically attack. However, hidden at the very end of Bill C-60, so that few people would even realize it is there, is a measure attacking the managers of crown corporations by interfering with their negotiating powers.

Points of Order  Mr. Speaker, I sometimes get carried away when we are talking about workers' rights. I apologize. I withdraw the word. I should have said that the government wants to hassle or pester the unions.

Government Policies  Yes, remember, arm's length. However, when CBC is bargaining with its employees, Conservatives want to take over. Will Conservatives scrap their plan to give themselves new powers to interfere in crown corporations, like VIA Rail, Canada Post or CBC?

Government Policies  Mr. Speaker, they are trying to piss off the unions with Bill C-377 and irritate the people at VIA Rail, CBC and Canada Post. They are sticking their noses into the business of all those organizations, but meanwhile they do not even know what they did with $3 billion. We are not talking about $1 billion or $2 billion but $29 billion in taxes that they are unable to collect.

Government Policies  Mr. Speaker, the Conservative government has lost track of $3.1 billion, but instead of putting its own house in order, it is micromanaging crown corporations and interfering in their affairs. When post offices are closing, crown corporations are—

Labour  Mr. Speaker, from CBC to Canada Post to VIA Rail, the Conservatives are now giving themselves brand new powers over collective agreements at crown corporations. One moment the Conservatives say these corporations are independent, and the next they are riding roughshod over collective bargaining.

Labour  Mr. Speaker, the President of the Treasury Board has lost track of $3 billion and now wants to stick his nose into the negotiations of crown corporations. He cannot even do his own job. He should mind his own business. The Conservatives' track record with VIA Rail is a disaster, and they continue to go after the CBC.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, oddly, the Parliamentary Budget Officer said that budget 2013 would result in the loss of 14,000 jobs for Canadians, not temporary jobs for foreign workers. Not only does omnibus bill 3.0 contain tax hikes, but it also gives excessive power to Treasury Board, allowing it to interfere in the negotiation of collective agreements.

Privacy  Mr. Speaker, we are on the side of taxpayers. We are on the side of freedom of negotiation, and we are on the side of good public services. Speaking of unacceptable, the Privacy Commissioner made very clear recommendations in order to protect the privacy of Canadians. If the Conservatives were really serious about this issue, they would have implemented these recommendations a long time ago.

Privacy  Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives want to control everything, but the one thing they cannot control is privacy breaches. Thousands of Canadians have had their confidential information compromised by the Conservatives. It took more than 3,000 data breaches before the Privacy Commissioner was informed.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, at least things are crystal clear: the Conservatives always side with big oil, while the NDP supports workers, fishers and families. The former Conservative minister from Newfoundland and Labrador Peter Penashue boasted about having held up a project in Newfoundland, and not just any project: the replacement of an outdated and dangerous bridge.

National Day of Mourning  Mr. Speaker, April 28, 2013, will mark the 29th National Day of Mourning. Every year, hundreds of workers lose their lives as a result of workplace accidents or occupational diseases. There were 919 work-related deaths in Canada in 2011, including 204 in Quebec. There have been over 12,000 deaths in the past decade.
