House debate  Jumping to such baseless and emotive language without verification and spreading misinformation demonstrate a serious lack of judgment, especially at a time when the conflict in the Middle East has led to an increase in Islamophobia and anti-Semitism—

Justice  Mr. Speaker, I completely agree with my hon. colleague that the rise in Islamophobia and anti-Semitism in Canada is alarming. The rise in acts of hatred is even more unacceptable. I strongly condemn the attack on the Jewish Community Council. We condemn all violence.

Canadian Heritage committee  Do you believe this is a responsible action, to so heavily subsidize companies that are engaged in that deliberate fomentation of hate? To what extent can we push back against anti-Semitism and Islamophobia by ending that massive subsidy to these companies?

Petitions  Petitioners call our attention to the tragic loss of innocent civilian lives in the conflict between Israel and Palestine, as well as the worrying rise in incidents of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in Canada. They call on the Government of Canada to advocate for an immediate ceasefire, to support diplomatic efforts aimed at a peaceful and just resolution to this enduring conflict and to encourage the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Canadian Heritage committee  What is relevant is ensuring that a notorious anti-Semite—anyone who has expressed anti-Semitic or racist views—never gets a government contract again. We are seeing a rise in hate. We are seeing a rise in Islamophobia. We are seeing a rise in anti-Semitism. We are seeing a rise in racism and misogyny. We are seeing a rise in homophobia and transphobia. Hate, in all of its appalling toxic forms, is appearing now.

Petitions  The petition calls on the Government of Canada to engage with the international community to work toward a ceasefire and genuine pathway to a political solution in the form of a two-state solution and to condemn violations of international law. It calls on the Government of Canada to condemn anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and all forms of bigotry and to advocate for the Israeli government to meet its commitments under the Geneva conventions and international humanitarian law. Canada was a leading voice 67 years ago in advocating for action “not only to end the fighting but to make peace”, in the words of Lester B.

Foreign Affairs  I appreciate her efforts in bringing the concerns of her constituents to the House. We know that communities are grieving, and we are all concerned by the rise of Islamophobia and anti-Semitism in our communities right across Canada. I join the hon. member in calling for us to condemn hate in all its forms. The horrific attacks by Hamas against Israel shocked us all.

Foreign Affairs  This past month has devastated many of us, and my constituents are as alarmed as I am by the increase in hate, including anti-Palestinian racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism. I have spoken with many Londoners who are still reeling from the horrific murder of members of our London family. Many Londoners do not feel safe sending their children to school, and some are scared to wear their Stars of David or their yarmulkes.

Public Safety  We understand that these are trying times around the world right now, but the best thing we can do as Canadians is stay true to our values, be respectful of one another, feel each other's pain and be there to support others through these very difficult times of a rise in hatred, including Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.

Foreign Affairs  At the same time, as parliamentarians and Canadians, we must be very concerned about the divisions, fear and even hatred that we are starting to see across Canada. We must be there to stand up against Islamophobia, anti-Semitism and all forms of hatred. Let us remember who we are as Canadians.

Canadian Heritage committee  I look forward to—given that we are so keen, all of us, to make sure that we don't do things and shouldn't do things to incite hatred or racism—that, as we ensure we work hard to make sure that our colleagues call out when they are associating with anti-Semites, Islamophobes and neo-Nazis, we take it upon ourselves to make sure that our colleagues are doing that, we take it upon ourselves to apologize when we try to implement government policies like a ban on the niqab and we apologize for voting against motions that condemn Islamophobia. It think it's really important that we hold ourselves to these very important standards and that we are consistent in that. I am grateful that all of us in this room have decided that we take it upon ourselves to condemn anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, because that's the right thing to do.

Committees of the House  How many apologies do we have to make in this place because we do not stand up and do the thing that is right when it is time to do it? Right now, in our own country, anti-Semitism and anti-Palestine hate are increasing. Islamophobia is increasing. People are afraid. They are afraid for themselves, for their loved ones and for our children. When we do not stand up collectively, we create a much less safe environment for everyone.

Foreign Affairs  Right at the outset, New Democrats called for a ceasefire, the release of all hostages, the protection of all civilians, an end to the siege and bombardment of Gaza, and for humanitarian aid to reach civilians urgently and without restriction. We condemn all acts of anti-Semitism, anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia, including any glorification or calls for the killing of innocent people, Israeli or Palestinian. As the siege and bombardment continue, a whole population could be wiped out. Humanity must be at the forefront of this war and any war.

Islamic History Month  October is Islamic History Month, and this event was a platform for raising funds in support of the coalition's vital advocacy work and their services dedicated to assisting victims of gender-based violence, discrimination, hate and Islamophobia in our community. As we bid farewell to Islamic History Month, which this year celebrates the theme of celebrating Muslim women in the arts and sciences, we are reminded to appreciate the significant contributions of Muslim women throughout history and in Canada.

Canadian Heritage committee  I take great pride and great responsibility in ensuring that when I see an act of anti-Semitism or Islamophobia or hatred that I speak out against it. That is our obligation, even when our colleagues are doing that. It is important for us not to equivocate on this. I look forward, as part of this conversation, for the members opposite, who have yet to apologize unreservedly for the actions of their colleagues and their party in hosting an anti-Semite from Germany, from a neo-Nazi organization—
