Business of Supply  The Leader of the Opposition likes to spread misinformation because he sees political opportunity from it, but what he cannot debate is the data that was released today. The data that was released today categorically shows that the price on pollution, the carbon tax, is now lowering emissions by 25 million tonnes per year and that eight out of 10 Canadians are better off as a result of the rebate that they receive as opposed to what they pay.

Business of Supply  This applies to both sides of the House. On the one hand, the Conservatives should accept that the carbon tax has a cost associated with it, but that the benefits ultimately outweigh that cost. A simple cost-benefit analysis would demonstrate that. On the other hand, the Liberal Party should not want to hide these numbers because it is afraid of how they might be interpreted, nor should it be claiming victory now, when only a few hours ago it did not want this information to be public.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  This carbon tax scam is nothing but a Ponzi scheme under the Liberal government, supported by the NDP, because all they want to do is protect their leaders' pensions.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I'll be sharing my time with my friend and associate, the member for Terrebonne. This is the umpteenth version of an opposition motion on the carbon tax. When I read the motion, I was kind of confused about my Conservative colleagues' intentions. A careful read of the motion eventually reveals that its mover is seeking access to the government's economic analysis of carbon pricing, which was produced by the Parliamentary Budget Officer.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I was just wondering, and maybe the member knows, maybe the government has shown him, how many emissions have been reduced by the carbon tax directly.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I believe that 25 million tonnes have been reduced per year, which has been the biggest reduction with a carbon tax since, I believe, the 1990s. I think it was the Oilers' last win, if I am right. However, this has been the biggest contribution to the reduction of carbon from our atmosphere that has ever happened in the history of this country.

Business of Supply  The Liberals need to come clean. They need to give out all the data now so Canadians know the truth about the carbon tax.

Business of Supply  The Liberal government released pieces of information that supports its narrative. It did not release all of the information. I maintain that the carbon tax cover-up continues. That report and that data, all of it needs to be tabled in this House now.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the motion we have been presented with today calls for an economic analysis of the carbon tax. I would submit, however, that what is needed is a far more macroeconomic analysis of the climate change question. This should include, for example, the costs of climate inaction, particularly the increase in insurance premiums and the health costs associated with pollution-related risks.

Human Resources committee  Everything seems to be going up, and this is also reflected within housing because the materials that are needed also go up. In April, 70% of the provinces asked to have a meeting because of the carbon tax increase by the federal government. That meeting request was not met, so in my mind it begs the question of how many other things provinces want to have meaningful conversation or consultation with the federal government on, and it doesn't show up or it does what it wants anyway.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  It is also a matter of confidence, so I will also remind my constituents back home that on these types of matters, I have zero confidence in the NDP-Liberal government and this coalition, and we must vote this legislation down. We have to have a carbon tax election, so let us axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget and stop the crime.

Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act  The carbon tax currently costs greenhouse operators $22 million a year, and they will pay between $82 million and $100 million by 2030 when the carbon tax quadruples. The numbers speak for themselves.

Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act  That is not its entire bill. That is the carbon tax portion of its bill. It expects the carbon tax amounts for 2024 to be about $175,000. When all is said and done, in the Liberals' current plan, if we do not give this exemption that Canadian farmers are desperately calling for to help with food prices, Carleton Mushroom Farms, one business south of Ottawa, is going to be paying $450,000 in carbon taxes alone.

Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act  In Ontario alone, with the April 1 carbon tax increase, farmers will pay $53 million in carbon taxes over the next year. By 2030, they will have paid $566 million in increased carbon taxes. This is just not affordable, nor is it sustainable.
