Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, can the minister state which government is responsible for the explosive growth of waiting lists, for mental health underfunding and for the simple fact that there are zero treatment beds in the entire Belleville region after nine years?

Business of Supply  They have tried to say that there is a lot of administrative burden. The good news is, when we get a few providers in a region, we see an explosion, because Canadians see that there was misinformation and that the program is easy to use.

Business of Supply  The opposite is true for the provinces, whose spending tends to grow faster than its spending, particularly because of the explosion in health care costs. The Conference Board analyses come to the same conclusion: If the federal government does not make massive investments in health care, the provinces' finances will not be sustainable come 2035.

National Defence committee  It will allow us to acquire short-range long-term missiles and replenish CAF ammunition and explosives that were donated to Ukraine. None of this work would be possible without our military and civilian members. They are, of course, our greatest asset. We are requesting approximately $1.1 billion towards fair compensation for CAF members as reflected in the updated military pay and collective agreement, as well as $446 million towards the long-term disability payments and life insurance plans for CAF members and approximately $1.8 billion in contributions towards the employment benefit plans for military and civilian staff.

Fisheries committee  We hear from different stakeholders that obviously what is affecting a lot of fish stocks in that area and throughout the Atlantic coast is the explosive growth in the population of pinnipeds. Do you feel that could be a factor on an ongoing basis for the healthy stock levels of redfish in the Atlantic waters?

Public Accounts committee  Why not take the time to answer this committee when it asks you questions as crucial as those that could help prevent spills and explosions, like the one in Lac-Mégantic, which unfortunately cost human lives just a few years ago? Please answer our questions.

Justice committee  Robertson and Special Envoy Lyons. Thank you for having me. Since October 7, we have seen in our country an explosion of anti-Semitic hate, the likes of which we have not seen before. At ground zero of this problem are our nation's universities, which have served as fertile grounds for the mobilization and recruitment of anti-Semitic hate groups, where students, faculty and staff have been able to engage in the ugliest of hate speech and glorification of violence and terrorism against Jews, without any fear whatsoever of consequences.

Finance committee  Money growth was steady for much of the period but began creeping up in the middle of 2019 and has since grown explosively as the bank and the government have worked to prevent a severe economic downturn. Although their growth has tapered off, these aggregates are still growing at extraordinary rates. For example, M1+, which is currency held by the public and all chequable deposits at financial institutions, is still growing at a jaw-dropping 14 per cent.

Official Languages committee  I also want to say that it's sad it has come to this. I'm sure we've all witnessed heated or explosive committee meetings before. However, in my 16 years here as a member of Parliament, I've rarely seen an explosion directed at witnesses. As parliamentarians, we must be prepared to hear points of view with which we do not agree.

Natural Resources committee  It's pretty clear what's happening in the United States with the Inflation Reduction Act and the recent U.S. clean power regulations released by the U.S. administration. We've seen an explosion of renewable electricity globally, by 50% last year alone, according to the International Energy Agency. Canada needs to be part of that if it wants to remain competitive. Clean power certainly positions us well in the North American economy and the global economy.

Foreign Affairs committee  Canada, with its internationally recognized and valued educational models, has historically played a leading role in education in Africa. In this context of demographic explosion, it is crucial that Canada reclaim this role by renewing and increasing its funding for education in African countries. In conclusion, prioritizing education ensures better use of resources and maximizes the benefits of Canadian investments, public or private, in Africa.

National Defence committee  If you're going to use a nuclear weapon, it would be much more expansive in terms of the damage. First of all, like anywhere else, a nuclear explosion in space is absolutely unacceptable at any level. It's the same with an ASAT test. I'm an environmentalist. You don't want to put any explosives up in space, because the debris stays for decades.

National Defence committee  I think people bluster a fair bit on these topics, but, in general, the business of messing around with somebody else's satellite capability would be more subtle than causing explosions.

National Defence committee  Let me back up on the details. The question was on a nuclear explosion in space and how would we detect that. I said in the same way we would have done it during the SACT drill that we were part of in 2021, when the Russians performed an anti-satellite test, ASAT, but they did it with a conventional weapon on their own satellite.

National Defence committee  Mathyssen's question, she talked about weapons in space and about the potential of a catastrophe. We've had testimony about a nuclear explosion in space. We've crossed over a lot of unthinkable events in fairly recent years, so we have to no longer accept that something is unthinkable. You would have thought the war in Ukraine would be unthinkable, but it happened, so let's not be restrained by what we think is unthinkable.
