Democratic Institutions  The foundation refused to comply with either of those demands, and no light was shed on this. Nevertheless, it was from the Trudeau Foundation that the Liberals recruited their experts, who are supposed to investigate any electoral interference, by China in particular. The Liberals can no longer claim that the truth will be made known without an independent commission of public inquiry.

Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, the end is drawing near. Pascale Fournier, former CEO of the Trudeau Foundation, appeared at committee, and her revelations were troubling. She testified that under her predecessor, Morris Rosenberg, an association with ties to Beijing dictated the terms for transferring the controversial $140,000 donation to the foundation.

Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, according to Pascale Fournier, former CEO of the Trudeau Foundation, his predecessor, Mr. Rosenberg, is caught up in the infamous Chinese donation of $140,000. He personally talked to donors through an organization with ties to the Chinese regime.

Democratic Institutions  Speaker, as everyone in the House knows full well, for 10 years I have not had any direct or indirect involvement with the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. As a government, we have taken meaningful action over the past few years to combat interference by the Chinese and others. We will continue to do the work to ensure the security and safety of Canadians, their institutions and their democracy.

Public Accounts committee  Through these events, there has been a great deal of bluster from senior Liberals, Liberals who want to blame the media and Conservatives for the problems of the Trudeau Foundation and the Trudeau government. In response to some of this misinformation, it's important to put the facts about the Trudeau Foundation on the record. The Trudeau Foundation is not a normal charity.

Democratic Institutions  Speaker, this morning the Auditor General announced that she would not be investigating the Chinese regime's donation to the Trudeau Foundation. This means that the only ongoing, supposedly neutral, investigation into Chinese interference is the one the Prime Minister personally asked David Johnston to conduct. He is a friend and a former member of the Trudeau Foundation who will report directly to the Prime Minister.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, we were wondering why China was trying so hard to cozy up to the Trudeau Foundation. This morning, La Presse gave us the answer. In 2016, at the same time that China was writing it a big cheque, the Trudeau Foundation was at a meeting, in the Prime Minister's own office, with not one, not two, not three, but five deputy ministers.

That, given that the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation received a $125-million taxpayer funded payment in 2002, the committee hold two hearings into the situation at the Trudeau Foundation and report its findings to the House, and that the witnesses will not include elected members of parliament or Trudeau Family members.

Public Accounts committee  I am confident that the subcommittee can work in good faith to ensure that we are able to hear from the leadership of the Trudeau Foundation and get to the bottom of this, or get as far as we can in two meetings given those exclusions.

Public Accounts committee  This motion is necessary for the public to have access to detailed answers and information, which will be presented to the committee, to understand what really happened at the Trudeau Foundation in terms of relationships, missed reimbursements and possible interference. The public deserves to know this, and we are their representatives. In my opinion, this motion was necessary.

It's no secret that what we're seeing and what's happening with the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, given that it's a foundation supported by public funds.... Given the events that have transpired with the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, it is important and in the public interest to have an investigation into its finances and donations, and in particular into any possible misdealings the organization may have had.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, what the Prime Minister is doing is helping himself to Trudeau Foundation donor money. He is helping himself by using the influence his office gives to indirectly generate donations to the Trudeau Foundation. Speaking of that, his brother was the one who orchestrated the donation from the Beijing dictatorship to the Trudeau Foundation.

Ethics  Speaker, that was quick. There is reality and there is the perception of reality. The Trudeau Foundation received money from Chinese donors, that is reality. The Prime Minister went on vacation to visit one of the Trudeau Foundation's major donors, that is reality. Morris Rosenberg, who was commissioned by the Prime Minister to assess foreign interference in elections, was CEO of the Trudeau Foundation, that is reality.

Democratic Institutions  Madam Speaker, where I agree with the member is that it is very clear. The Prime Minister has had no direct or indirect contact with the Trudeau Foundation for over 10 years now. That is well established and is very clear.
