Questions on the Order Paper  Mr. Speaker, with regard to the investing in Canada infrastructure program and proposed projects in the riding of Elgin—Middlesex—London, Infrastructure Canada’s program information management system does not contain information by federal riding. Therefore, information is provided based on the localities within the federal electoral district as defined by Elections Canada.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I can say, as the former parliamentary secretary for health, that this government and the Minister of Health are working diligently with the provinces, territories and municipalities to deal with the opioid crisis. It is a crisis. It is something we need to all work on together.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, first let me acknowledge how terribly sorry I am that my hon. colleague's constituent went through that, but that is precisely the point. The Conservatives' idea of tough on crime has not worked. As he just said, his own constituent does not even have faith in the criminal justice system because of their failed policies.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, what we are discussing here specifically is mandatory minimums, but that does not mean there are not other pieces of legislation we are working on. When I was a young member of the finance committee, I remember one of the very first things we did was restore the funding to the CBSA that the Conservatives cut from the budget to ensure we could stop gun smuggling.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, because this is my first time rising in this Parliament to give a substantial speech, if my colleagues allow me I would like to thank my riding of Pickering—Uxbridge and all of the residents for once again putting their faith in me. I would also like to thank my team of volunteers, my riding association, my family and my mom, who is probably at the door.

Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act  Mr. Speaker, I do not know if my hon. colleague was here earlier, but the opposition House leader read statistics in her speech on gun violence. In fact, she tried to blame Liberals for an increase in violence. However, it is actually under the very legislation Conservatives enacted on mandatory minimums that we saw an increase in crime rates.

Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act  Mr. Speaker, I wear it with a badge of honour, but I do not know who upsets the opposition more, me or the member for Kingston and the Islands. The Conservatives had failed policies when it came to the criminal justice system. Could the hon. member comment on those failures?

Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act  Madam Speaker, the minister spoke about the harm that mandatory minimums can do and the inability of sentencing to take into account additional factors. I would like the minister to speak about youths and ensuring there is a process in place to make sure young people do not get sucked into the cycle of crime because extenuating circumstances or factors are not considered, while also ensuring that serious harmful crimes are punished in a way that Canadians would expect.

Bob Kilger  Mr. Speaker, I rise to honour a friend and former Liberal MP, Bob Kilger, whose battle with cancer came to an end last week. I never got the chance to serve with Bob, but I got to know him through my dear friend, his wife, Courtney. Bob was so generous with his time, not only giving me advice but also being a mentor to my staff.

Order Respecting the Business of the House and its Committees  Excuse me, Mr. Speaker, I continue to be heckled. I cannot stand that the Conservatives give it but they cannot take it. To all the students and to all those employees who went to work virtually over the course of the pandemic, and to doctors and nurses who still saw their patients, for the Conservatives to stand here today—

Order Respecting the Business of the House and its Committees  Mr. Speaker, thank you. Will the Conservatives stand in their place and apologize for accusing Canadians of not working throughout the pandemic? They went to work virtually and went to school virtually, and did the right thing to keep Canadians safe. Is the member going to apologize?

Outstanding Community Members  Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize outstanding members from my community of Pickering—Uxbridge. Despite the pandemic, these individuals share an unwavering commitment to supporting their communities. Dr. Carlye Jensen and Dr. Jennifer Wilson were recently selected by the Dalla Lana School of Public Health as Pillars of the Pandemic.

Health  Mr. Speaker, when it comes to the dissemination of misinformation regarding this pandemic, I think the member opposite should understand his role and responsibility as a parliamentarian, and the trust that his constituents place in him. This pandemic is serious. It requires a serious response.
