Official Languages committee  Do you acknowledge that you and your department are keeping your cards close to your chest and that you're hiding information from us? When you share your suggestions with the government, it will be a done deal for the Standing Committee on Official Languages. Can you at least acknowledge this?

Industry committee  You've talked about how the CRTC doesn't seem to be interested, and you just mentioned how the telcos seem to be hiding their heads in the sand as well. What would you suggest, in the next minute and 10 seconds, that would help us in that regard?

National Defence committee  I know I give this answer every single time, but it deserves it. We do need to acknowledge it and not hide the fact. Fixing this problem as a government is a priority for us. In defence, I want to particularly let you and everybody else in this room know how seriously I and the senior leadership team are taking it.

Transport committee  If you were installing a new system, and you didn't consider it important when it would be fairly important, and wanted to avoid disclosing that fact as part of the certification process, would you be able to hide that change from Transport Canada or the Air Transport Association of Canada, ATAC? Would the Canadian certifying body detect it?

Transport committee  House of Representatives, which I find somewhat disturbing, when we think about the comments they make in the report about the tremendous financial pressure to get things done, the culture of concealment, hiding flaws with the MCAS system from 737 Max pilots and failure to identify key safety problems. They're questioning the certification process of the FAA, obviously. I found that somewhat concerning.

Micah Messent  He was excited for the opportunity to connect with other young people seeking solutions to their generation's biggest challenges. Micah Messent was Métis and he supported the Moose Hide Campaign to end violence against women and children. Now his mother sews hearts onto moosehide pins in his memory. The 737 Max is a structurally flawed aircraft that Boeing tried to fix with software.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  These chiefs' voices have been amplified by the skills and the resources of outside environmental activists who say that they support Wet'suwet'en, but whose primary interest is to stop the pipeline. The protest organizers are conveniently hiding behind our blanket as indigenous people while forcing their policy goals at our expense. This compromises our nation's social well-being and our people's economic future. They have held up the hereditary chiefs who oppose the pipeline as defenders of traditional governance, leaving the impression that the chief and council are running roughshod over the wishes of the community.

Industry committee  Since its initial introduction in May 2018, we have determined that call control is significantly more effective than UCB, blocking 40% of incoming calls to customers who have activated the feature. Call control is also almost immune to spoofing, namely, where fraudsters hide their identity by faking a genuine number, like the one here today or one from a local area code. Due to the success of call control, we have been working on enabling it for our wireless customers.

Industry committee  That's one thing they will do, and not just in using regular phone technologies, but also in abusing the IP technologies to commit their fraud and hide behind the technologies to actually avoid being detected. They like to create layers. They'll use technology to that effect.

Industry committee  Long-running international cases like Project Octavia are indicative of the challenges the RCMP continues to encounter when investigating fraud. Criminals hide behind technology and international jurisdictions to perpetrate their crimes in Canada. However, where there is a challenge there is always an opportunity. Part of the success of Project Octavia can be attributed to the public awareness campaign undertaken by the RCMP through the CAFC.

Industry committee  These people often do not reside in Canada, have no interest in complying with the rules and are using technology to hide their identity. To combat this problem, the CRTC required certain service providers to implement a system to block types of calls within their networks by the end of last year. Whenever the caller identification information exceeds 15 digits, or doesn't conform to a number that can be dialed, for example, all zeros, the call will not go through.

National Defence committee  I would tell the families that we're taking all of the strongest precautionary measures we can while still realizing that we have to be postured to deliver on a mission. It doesn't mean we can lock ourselves in isolation and hide from something. We're not only putting mitigation measures in place. We're also doing due diligence so that, not if, but when, it hits—at some level, we will likely have people affected by this—we have the right resources and expertise in place all the way to evacuation.

Business of Supply  Every document that is in the public interest should automatically be disclosed so that everyone can see what we are doing. As I said earlier, when we have nothing to hide and we want to collaborate, then providing as much information as possible is the best way to enable dialogue and collaboration.

Business of Supply  Otherwise, I might be inclined to think there are documents in the public interest that cannot be disclosed to parliamentarians. It should come as no surprise to learn that the government lacks transparency and is hiding things from us. When that happens, it prevents all parliamentarians from working toward the common good, even though that is what we were elected to do.
