Privilege  Every foundation has a worthwhile and important mission, and the Trudeau Foundation is no exception. However, there is a slight difference between the Trudeau Foundation and other foundations. When the Trudeau Foundation was created, the Canadian government contributed significantly, to say the least.

Democratic Institutions  In the new development, the chair of the Trudeau Foundation said that he cannot tell where the donation ended up. He said they gave it back, but they do not know whom they gave it back to. Will the Prime Minister support new powers for the Auditor General to fully audit the Trudeau Foundation so that we can get to the bottom of this scandal?

Public Accounts committee  The motion reads as follows: That the Committee request that the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics forward to the Committee all documents and correspondence received from Ms. Pascale Fournier, ex-President and CEO of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. I will yield the rest of my speaking time to my colleague.

Democratic Institutions  They knew that China had suspicious ties to one of their MPs, but they hid it. They knew that China was hobnobbing with the Trudeau foundation, but they hid it. More importantly, they knew that China was threatening elected officials and their families, but they hid it. Most importantly, they did nothing. That is unforgivable.

Information & Ethics committee  I'll cover three points now: the mission of the foundation, governance matters raised in previous testimony needing correction, and a message to our scholars. First, I'll go to the foundation. The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation is a non-partisan charitable scholarship foundation created in 2002, with broad cross-party support in the House of Commons. The first board of directors included Bill Davis, Roy Romanow and Peter Lougheed.

Democratic Institutions  Speaker, we have been calling for an independent commission of public inquiry for months. From threats against MPs to funding for the Trudeau Foundation, everything we are hearing justifies a serious inquiry. The government is telling us that it is taking action. How? With these new directives, CSIS will seek, whenever possible, to ensure, in a timely manner, that parliamentarians are perhaps informed of any threats, if necessary.

Procedure and House Affairs committee  I think there have been some comments around Canada's role in being a useful idiot and people being useful idiots in some instances. At the ethics committee, we're studying the Trudeau Foundation. That allegation was lobbied there. Mr. Zhang Bin, who's a multi-billionaire in China and a very influential person, provided a donation to the Trudeau Foundation. In your opinion, is that type of intervention considered influence, or could it also cross the threshold into interference?

Privilege  On the issue of a national public inquiry, the government would rather have people from the Trudeau Foundation, in spite of all that the Trudeau Foundation has been implicated in, be the ones doing this investigation. I wonder if the member has reflections tonight on why the Liberals opposed our motion and would not explain why, and why they would rather have people from the Trudeau Foundation investigate foreign interference than the people who are genuinely independent and have the confidence of all parties.

Privilege  It required a court challenge on the part of the Speaker to get that information. I mentioned the Trudeau Foundation and the failure to recognize cabinet stepping away from its obligation to stand up in this place and be counted, actually abstaining from a vote on the Uyghur Muslim genocide. We have illegal police stations that are still operating in this country.

Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada  He has vacationed in Jamaica, where his accommodations, at a cost of $80,000, were paid for by Trudeau Foundation donors. This is all while the cost of his government has been driving up the cost of living here at home. With his plans for a 41¢-a-litre tax on gas, heat and food, Canadians are planning their staycations.

Procedure and House Affairs committee  The reason we are dealing with multiple issues is that they are all intertwined, when it comes to the decisions of the Liberal government. Questions have been raised regarding the Trudeau Foundation's funding. David Johnston, the former commissioner, is now the independent special rapporteur on foreign interference. Mr. LeBlanc, I want to ask you something very specific. I know you to be someone who answers questions candidly.

Privilege  We know that many Canadians reported coming under similar sorts of threats. We also know that Beijing donated $144,000 to the Trudeau Foundation. We know that the Prime Minister's brother, Mr. Alexandre Trudeau, to be clear, was the one who signed off on that donation, yet the Prime Minister claims to have no affiliation whatsoever.

Privilege  There is a pattern of pandering to Beijing, which appears to have begun when the Prime Minister won the Liberal Party leadership. A large donation was soon made to the Trudeau Foundation, and questions have arisen about the receipt issued for the donation. Parliamentary committees are studying that as well, urging the CRA to investigate that to get to the bottom of any undue influence on our democracy and the Prime Minister.

Public Accounts committee  There's not some detailed, exhaustive detective work happening on what is obviously a very narrow and precise amendment from my colleague in the Bloc. This is an effort to talk this out to avoid accountability for the Trudeau foundation regarding foreign interference and to avoid documents being sent to the committee. As I expect that we'll see Liberal members continue to talk this out over the next hour, let's be under absolutely no illusions about what they're doing or why they're doing it.
