Information & Ethics committee  I believe it is quite clear that the issue of time extensions, as I see it, would probably be better dealt with through amending the legislation. My point is that, pending such amendments to the Act, I believe we should look very closely at the issue of interdepartmental consultations because there are systemic delays in obtaining access to information.

Veterans Affairs committee  They work super-hard, and they're overworked, stressed, and frustrated. If you speak with district offices, I think it'll be pretty clear that if district offices at random throughout Canada are asked how often a senior manager has come down and actually heard concerns directly from them, the answer will probably be, “Never”.

Foreign Affairs committee  As a matter of fact, I'm looking forward to the report of Deloitte and Touche, because I think this is a very important report that will be able to clear the air, give us the situation, and bring change if there has to be change within the organization. I'm really looking forward to this report. I met with them, and I asked them to accelerate their report as much as possible.

Information & Ethics committee  The Privy Council Office has had years where it has had an F. It now has a D. In terms of the consultation, Mr. Chairman, I wasn't clear whether the member was referring to cabinet confidence or to consultations with the access to information office. I'm assuming it's cabinet confidence—

Jobs and Economic Growth Act  I would like to remind the hon. member that the parties that come into power, here in Parliament, are parties that have principles and that listen to the public. If we want the power, we have to listen to the public. The public was quite clear in telling us that now is not the time for an election. That gives the Liberal opposition time to prepare to take power eventually. It gives our party time to develop Canada-wide strategies and visions to offer to all Canadians in the next election.

Canadian Heritage committee  It's a big concern of many post-secondary institutions, and now the provincial governments have brought it to our attention. I hope that's clear enough.

Foreign Affairs committee  Just to be clear here, Prima Communication is still on contract with Rights and Democracy as far as you know?

Justice committee  Could you give us an assessment of this tremendous increase in the costs of police investigations that might be compensated for thanks to more frequent guilty pleas, given the clear evidence that can more often bring lawyers to file guilty pleas?

Veterans Affairs committee  The minister, at the first meeting I had with him, promised he would follow up. He never followed up with meetings with me. So it was very clear that they were effective about destroying my reputation, especially within the governing party. In addition to that, I received phone calls. When I tried to meet with Minister Thompson, there were phone calls from two senior VAC bureaucrats.

Canadian Heritage committee  I worked in early-stage companies in both India and China and saw the transformation up close, where it was clear that what the thinkers on the subject were saying was true: Canada would need to innovate. Innovation is simply the development and promotion of new ideas. The Mark, at its core, is an operation, in my mind, that harvests Canadian ideas and brings them to a global market.

Information & Ethics committee  In reading your report, it's clear that in several instances.... I look at the natural resources department, where it says,“All but the most routine requests are held up in the minister's office”. Now, on Tuesday, we had the PMO chief of staff, Mr.

Foreign Affairs committee  The employees and I, as president, must work to implement programming consistent with that direction. That must be clear for everyone. I am also aware that the management of resources and labour relations is a major challenge. This issue is moreover central to the dispute. Rights and Democracy cannot achieve its objectives and effectively implement its five-year plan unless coherence is restored to the institution and the working atmosphere is improved.

Information & Ethics committee  I know that you don't do these frivolously, that you've done your homework, and I appreciate that. I will try to be a little more vigilant or clear on my actions. We also were in a position where we were down to the last dregs of time and trying to be fair to all members to get through, and the chair, maybe in his haste to try to keep the questioning going, probably used his discretion not to your advantage.

Industry committee  Sorry, if we're going to put the news release out, I just want to be clear. Looking at the text, it says the motion as adopted reads as follows, then lists it, but there are no quotations around it or anything like that. So we should probably set aside clearly what the actual motion reads.

Transport committee  I had asked you previously to check the records on the debate that took place there to ensure that there was compliance with the requirements for confidentiality under the.... I had the opportunity to view them as well. I think it was pretty clear that, in the heat of the debate, there were comments made that went outside the purview of the previous report that was made on that in camera session. Is that your understanding?
