Health committee  Jo Kennelly to straighten out what's happened and give them an opportunity to speak for themselves on the innuendo or allegations so far. I think they deserve the opportunity to clear the air on how they feel this chronology rolled out. So I would move that we hold one more hearing, the witnesses being Minister Aglukkaq, David Butler-Jones, Minister Toews, Mr. Clement, Dr.

Industry committee  Also on the way are short TV episodes, which will be called “mobisodes”. They are episodes for wireless mobile telephones. There is a clear involvement in broadcasting. It will no longer be possible to separate the two, and they will become more and more intertwined. So that is not possible. Given these circumstances, I do not think you would recommend a division of broadcasting: TV channel owners on one side and wireless carriers on the other.

Health committee  It's not reflecting the money that Canada is going to put into HIV/AIDS, and it's also not reflecting on the bad relationship with the Gates Foundation. So I really do appreciate the very clear testimony. I also want to acknowledge the disappointment from the many organizations that did work very hard, and I'm sure it has indeed been a disappointment to you. There are a couple of questions that I would like to ask.

Health committee  It was to be in the fall of 2009, and the ultimate decision came forward in January 2010. There is certainly concern that there is not a clear answer as to what happened to this decision--how it was made. I don't know if it was political. I don't have an understanding or direct knowledge of whether it was political, but there is a concern that we don't really understand the decision.

Petitions  That money could have been used to improve health care and seniors' pensions right here in Canada. Polls continue to show a clear majority of Canadians want the war to end before the scheduled removal date of 2011. The petitioners call on the government to bring home the troops now.

Questions on the Order Paper  The counsellor has begun to construct the framework and methodology and will soon be conducting formal consultations with stakeholders to develop the review mechanism. f) With regard to why there is no clear and user-friendly information on the government’s Foreign Affairs and International Trade website to assist Canadians in contacting the CSR counsellor, the counsellor is in the process of developing a website for the office with website address at www.international.gc.ca/csr-counsellor.

Transport committee  All right. That was one aspect that wasn't clear four years ago. Things change and so much the better. The government, it has to be agreed, understood that we had to ensure the number of inspectors and budget were sufficient. The ICAO made the same recommendation.

Industry committee  I say this because proposals typically are intended to solve an identified problem. In this case, the objectives are less than clear. There is a perception that wireless pricing in Canada is high and that we lag behind in investment and innovation. This simply is not correct, and misperceptions should not drive policy in Canada.

Natural Resources committee  Is it one of your concerns, at the Department of Natural Resources, to identify, establish priorities and assess these projects so that we can stop this piecemeal approach, have a clear vision of the future and embark on the right path?

Official Languages committee  I simply want to make a comment. I thought that it had been made clear that the committee hoped to meet with the minister for two hours. I understand that ministers are very busy and that they have other things to do, but we have a lot of questions to ask.

Health committee  In 2005, company officials examined the situation in the field. In their program and action plan, they made it clear that more vaccine manufacturing capability was required. In 2007, the foundation and the government agreed to work together. Time passed, and that was a problem. The foundation held a meeting at the start of 2009 and the question was raised.

Health committee  We're funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada, and I'm dealing all the time with the mindset of public health physicians and researchers, which is that vaccines are the only answer. The world has changed. It's very clear, as I pointed out in my presentation, that antivirals have been the only tool we've had to use to combat HIV in the last 20 years, so a comprehensive approach... I understand that there are research programs that are supported through CIHR, but we're not talking about that; we're talking about translational research, we're talking about actually getting discoveries into a production mode, such that you can have GMP material to administer to patients in a clinical trial.

Transport committee  Last year the Minister of State for Transport, through a question in the House, asked me to apologize for talking about aviation safety and bringing up questions on aviation safety. We've since seen the government change its tune on that. The evidence is pretty clear. Do you accept the findings and conclusions of the two Transportation Safety Board crash investigations at Fox Harbour and Wainwright? Do you agree with those conclusions?
