Human Resources committee  We are scaling up the investments in affordable housing for low-income families, including not just support for new builds but an acquisition fund that will help more organically affordable housing that exists in the market to be transferred to non-profit actors so they are maintained at a level of affordability forever. There's additional funding through the reaching home program to support communities that are seeking to support those who do not have a place to live, with additional supports to help communities that are struggling with encampments to help transition people to durable housing solutions.

Canadian Heritage committee  We have over a million viewers tuning in to CBC. To say CBC television is no longer relevant...it is the only place where Canadians can watch the hockey games they love for free. Remember that. Otherwise, it's behind a paywall.

National Strategy to Reduce Food Waste and Combat Food Insecurity  Motion No. 110, advanced by the hon. member for Willowdale, addresses food waste reduction, food insecurity, reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, reaching the UN's sustainable development goals and policy to increase food donations to those in need. While this motion contains goals I agree with, it seeks only to express an opinion of the House and not to enshrine anything concrete into law.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  We launched this account in April 2023, and to date, it has helped more than 750,000 Canadians, and counting, reach their first home savings goals. A more competitive economy benefits all Canadians by offering more choice and greater affordability for consumers and businesses alike. Building on changes proposed in Bill C-56, Bill C-59 would amend both the Competition Act and the Competition Tribunal Act to modernize competition in Canada, thereby helping to stabilize prices across the entire economy.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  I remember that Margaret Thatcher said that the problem with the never-ending spending spiral is that eventually the government runs out of other people's money. We have reached that point. The credit card is maxed out, the cupboard is bare and the effects are disastrous. The NDP-Liberal government this year will spend $54.1 billion to service the debt, which is the same amount we collect for HST.

Housing  Madam Speaker, after nine years of this Bloc-Liberal government, the housing crisis is reaching unparalleled proportions. This July 1 will go down in history, but for all the wrong reasons. The crisis is not limited to large urban centres. It affects the regions as well. An article published in this morning's La Presse says that Quebec's association of police chiefs has noticed a significant rise in homelessness.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  The imbalance between supply and demand is inflaming the housing crisis and is making it more difficult for people to afford housing. Those who try to help are denied. Stephen from Revelstoke reached out to me regarding his grant application, which is approximately $15 million over the course of a few years to a housing accelerator fund that he and his organization had been denied.

Government Business No. 39—Proceedings on Bill C-64  It is not as if they are technical bills where perhaps there is timeline the Liberals need to reach and where, for the proper administration of government, they can perhaps make an argument they can stand on, but for matters of conscience, to guillotine debate is wrong. In this particular case, I would say that this is not a matter of conscience.

National Strategy to Reduce Food Waste and Combat Food Insecurity  Initiatives have been adopted in other peer countries that optimize packaging requirements to preserve food longer, while less restrictive best-before dates could ensure that consumers are not compelled to prematurely dispose of groceries that are wholesome and healthy yet past their retail prime.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  Here is an excerpt from his presentation: ...a major lender recently announced that it would no longer accept new mortgages for homes in high-risk flood zones. The consequences of such decisions on the value of residential housing, which for many households is the main asset, could prove quite dire.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  We continue to run deficits. There is a cliff we are going to hit at some point in time here, where we are no longer able to meet our needs going forward, because everything that we put into our savings is going to be whittled away into interest payments on our debt. This coming year, that interest payment is $54 billion.
