Health committee  An earlier question seemed to imply that Canada is unprepared for a future influenza outbreak. Through my role as the parliamentary secretary for health, I've met with stakeholders, including Seqirus, an organization with a partnership in the United States that procures, manufactures and provides vaccines in the many millions and millions of doses for Canadians, Americans and other people around the country.

The Budget  I am really glad that was identified as a problem and that solutions were provided in budget 2023 so we can ensure that Canadian farmers are able to produce food, regardless of the market challenges occurring right now due to Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine and the pressures it is putting on various fertilizer markets around the world.

Sport  Mr. Speaker, I could not agree with my colleague more. While Canadians are really excited that Toronto and Vancouver will play host to games during the FIFA 2026 men's world cup, we have to do more to ensure that everybody has access to sport, physical activity and recreation.

Health committee  Over the last couple of months, we've also heard from children's health advocates about the very significant impact those products have on children's health. I'm of the opinion that we need to move forward. Frankly, we need to move quickly. We've heard from the organizations with concerns.

Health committee  It is preventative health care. We talk a lot about health care and perhaps not enough about health. What can we do to promote physical activity and exercise—not just for youth, particularly, but for all Canadians—and to also reduce some of the barriers to access for that preventative health care measure?

Health committee  My first question is for you, Ms. McKinney. I'm curious about specific interventions that would address and improve children's health issues from an indigenous perspective and how our government can more thoroughly address and support these types of interventions.

Online Streaming Act  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for his hard work on this bill. It has been an extraordinary voyage. I, like most Canadians, feel as if these massive companies, like Google, Apple and Facebook, have way too much power. They have way too much control over what we see.

Business of Supply  Third, we want to improve access to mental health services and substance use services for Canadians. Right now, one in three Canadians say that they are struggling with their mental health. It is clear that there is no health without mental health.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, first, I would like to thank my hon. colleague from Vancouver Kingsway for his collaboration on the health committee. I agree with him, and I will re-emphasize our number one priority. Health care in Canada should remain, and always be, publicly funded, universally available and equitably delivered to all Canadians.

Business of Supply  I would also like to share a quote from Dr. Alika Lafontaine from the Canadian Medical Association: Today’s commitment by the federal government to significantly increase health transfers to provincial and territorial governments is an important step to stabilize and transform our health care systems.

Health  We will always protect Canadians' equitable access to universal public health care services, because the role of Canada's Minister of Health is to ensure the Canada Health Act is respected.

Business of Supply  The quotes he shared were primarily from provincial organizations representing the workers in those provinces, which is important, but I think they were directing those comments to provincial governments. We heard from Canadian organizations, like the Canadian Medical Association, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Canadian Nurses Association, SEIU Healthcare, The College of Family Physicians of Canada and HealthCareCAN, including Children's Healthcare Canada.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I agree. We believe that all one should need to get health care in Canada is a health card, not a credit card. Canadians are proud of our system, which is based on need, not ability to pay. Canadians should have access to medical services based on their need, not their ability to pay.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the question from my colleague and his collaboration on the health committee. We believe, on this side of the House, that all that people should need in order to get health care is their health card, not their credit card. We will always stand up for Canada's universal, public health care.

Health committee  This is a super-important topic of conversation, and we're really grateful for all of your expertise. I'm going to focus the first half of my questions on childhood obesity and the role that poverty and the lack of physical activity interventions play in contributing to childhood obesity. We know that kids in the United States suffer disproportionately from obesity and fewer opportunities to be physically active and healthy.
