Foreign Affairs committee  I actually will just make one comment. Well, no, I'll make two comments. I have an observation for our friends from the RCMP. If there's a way to have more women involved, I think most of us would like to see that. It's great to see that there's 10%, but I think most would hope we could see that complement grow.

Foreign Affairs committee  I just have one quick question, to do with the idea of peace-building. Perhaps Mr. Dade, or maybe someone else, might want to answer this question. It's on the role of training of police and whether anyone can give me statistics on how many women have been trained in the area of police services.

Foreign Affairs committee  Sorry to interrupt the flow, Mr. Chairman, but I would hope, if we can, to reserve thirty minutes if possible for committee business, because I know there has been a lot of committee business we've been trying to get to. If possible, I would appreciate that.

Foreign Affairs committee  A balanced mission and a balanced opinion there. Thank you to our panel. I just want to clarify something that seems to be out there, that we don't support committing to Afghanistan as a party. Contrary to what you might hear, we do. It's just about how we do it. It's not about aiding Afghanistan; it's about how you aid Afghanistan.

Foreign Affairs committee  But within our own envelope, how much we're spending on military, we're about ten to one. That is roughly the coefficient.

Foreign Affairs committee  I appreciate the points from my colleague across the way. I think I prefaced my comments last time, my last turn around, to say that it's not about whether we should help Afghanistan, it's about how we do it. For those who have a certain stereotype in their minds about our party, you should know that it's not to withdraw to any fortress, it's to engage.

Foreign Affairs committee  No, I take your point. Thank you.

Foreign Affairs committee  No, I understand. It's a separate one. My only point was that it's not under the ISAP auspice; it's a separate command and control.

Foreign Affairs committee  I appreciate that. There are still 12,000 troops under Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, as you know. My concern, though, is that under the operational practice of the Americans.... It was brought to this committee by Colonel Capstick and others as a real concern--who we are following.

Foreign Affairs committee  Thank you, Chair, and thank you to our guests for the work they have done and for being here today. Just to clear the record--and I'll speak for myself as an opposition member--it wasn't not wanting to have you at committee, it was the way in which you would present yourself at committee.

Foreign Affairs committee  Mr. Chair, I just wanted, if I may, to present an emergency motion. It's to do with the tragic events that happened in Jerusalem. We actually got notice of it when we were in question period today. I just wanted to bring this forward. I've talked to some members of the committee.
