Protection of Canada from Terrorists Act  Mr. Speaker, of course all of the laws we have introduced, and this bill specifically, balance the rights and privacy of Canadian citizens. They also do something that Canadians have asked us to do, which is a full commitment and full responsibility of any government, and that is to protect citizens from threats, whether from abroad or direct threats right here on Canadian soil.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, we have invested in affordable housing in a number of ways, including direct funding in previous budgets to help renovate and retrofit social housing. We have expanded and extended our investment in affordable housing. Because provinces are directly responsible for housing, we provide the funding and they match that funding, which they use for a wide variety of things, like rent supplements, new affordable housing, and a host of other things.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for Medicine Hat for the strong work he does to fight for tax fairness for Canadian families. Almost two million families are looking forward to our family tax cut, which will benefit middle- to low-income families primarily. Every single Canadian family in Canada with children is looking forward to our increase and expansion of the universal child care benefit.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, unfortunately that member is absolutely making things up, and that is very disappointing. Here is what our government has done. We have renewed agreements. The member might not like them, but the provinces love them. Let me repeat what Ted McMeekin, Ontario's minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, said: The renewed partnership between Canada and Ontario will help improve access to safe, suitable affordable housing, British Columbia minister Rich Coleman said: The extension of this agreement will help us to create more housing options for British Columbians.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, this is what Canadian families can count on. They can count on this Conservative government to ensure that they have more money in their pockets, as opposed to the Liberals, who would not only end income splitting for almost two million families in Canada but would also end income splitting for our pensioners.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the reason that funding is not being renewed is that mortgages are generally paid off, and when the mortgages are paid off, the agreements end. Provinces are in charge of housing; it is their jurisdiction. What we have done is to provide funding to the provinces to the tune of $1.25 billion.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, as I said, we have done more than that. In fact, we have a homelessness partnering strategy to help those who are chronically and episodically homeless. We also have provided funds to the provinces who are in charge of housing. Here is another idea for the NDP. How about helping Canadians, those who are vulnerable, to have more money in their pockets so they can afford the housing in their regions?

Employment  Mr. Speaker, this is precisely why we began reforming the temporary foreign worker program in 2012. In fact, the Minister of Employment and Social Development cited specifically youth unemployment as a reason to make these reforms. One of the new requirements, which, by the way, the NDP did not support, is that workers would have to show that they have aggressively pursued hiring people who are under-represented, like youth, like people with disabilities, like aboriginal Canadians.

Employment  Mr. Speaker, the fact is we have made major reforms that started in 2012-13 and just recently. When we are talking about youth unemployment, certainly we want the temporary foreign worker program to not exclude any Canadian, but there are a lot of other things we are doing to help young people get jobs, things like the apprenticeship grant, the apprenticeship job creation tax credit, and the tradesperson tools deduction tax credit.

Persons with Disabilities  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for Brant for the great work he is doing on behalf of Canadians with disabilities. No government has done more to support Canadians of all abilities than our government through the great programs I have already mentioned. Through the labour market agreements for persons with disabilities, we have helped over 289,000 Canadians with disabilities find jobs.

Persons with Disabilities  Mr. Speaker, Canadians with disabilities know that there is no other government that has been as supportive of them, not only in terms of assisting them but also including them in and helping them access the workplace and other community places. We have renewed the labour market agreements for persons with disabilities.

Persons with Disabilities  Mr. Speaker, here is what we are doing. This government is meeting with Canadians with disabilities who want to be in the workplace, who want community places to be accessible. We are listening to them and we have responded, whether it is with our enabling accessibility program, our opportunities fund, or our renewed labour market agreements.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the absolute fact is all of the funding under the HPS program is available for Quebec. As proposals come in, and as I explained to the member, there is a joint committee made up of Quebec officials and federal officials who make those decisions. Due diligence is taken to ensure that those programs and projects fit within the parameters.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, as I tried to explain to the member, who was not at the meeting but sent her staff instead, these project proposals come in and are reviewed in Quebec by a joint committee of federal and Quebec civil servants. What this is about is the NDP not supporting the evidence-based approach called “Housing First”.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, all of that money is there. I told the member that I would explain the way this process worked to her. She did not bother coming to my office. She is not interested in real explanations, because she does not want to know the answer. The funding is there for the homelessness partnering strategy.
