Government Appointments  Madam Speaker, as we committed to Canadians, we have a process that is open, transparent, and merit-based. All available positions are online, and we always encourage Canadians to apply. What is interesting is that we endeavour to always work with all members in this place. We know that Canadians have a place.

Government Appointments  Madam Speaker, we will always endeavour to work in the best interests of all Canadians. That is why this government has taken historic levels of consultations. Every member of Parliament is here to represent the best interests of his or her constituents, and we appreciate hearing the diversity of those voices.

Government Appointments  Madam Speaker, the member has been in this place much longer than I have. He knows we endeavour to always work with all members of Parliament. That is why any constructive feedback is always welcome. We have introduced an open, transparent, merit-based process. We know that many Canadians have considered applying.

Business of the House  Mr. Speaker, this afternoon, we will continue the debate begun this morning on the Conservative Party's opposition motion. Tomorrow, we will have the second and last day of debate at third reading stage of Bill C-45 on cannabis. Monday, we will resume debate on Bill C-59 concerning national security.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I am sure the member knows very well, as Canadians should know, that there is a process in this place and there are independent officers of Parliament. Independent officers of Parliament have a responsibility to ensure that members of Parliament are in compliance and also that the partisanship of this place is not reflected in that work so we can serve in the best interests of Canadians.

Cannabis Act  moved: That in relation to Bill C-45, An Act respecting cannabis and to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Criminal Code and other Acts, not more than one further sitting day shall be allotted to the consideration of the report stage and two sitting days shall be allotted to the consideration at third reading stage of the said bill; and That 15 minutes before the expiry of the time provided for Government Orders on the day allotted to the consideration of the report stage and on the second day allotted to the consideration at third reading stage of the said bill, any proceedings before the House shall be interrupted, if required for the purpose of this Order, and in turn every question necessary for the disposal of the stage of the bill then under consideration shall be put forthwith and successively without further debate or amendment.

Human Rights  Mr. Speaker, this is an issue that we take very seriously. We respect the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We know that more work needs to be done, and that is exactly why we will continue to engage with Canadians to ensure that we are delivering for them. This government knows that Canadians have a role in this place.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, let us try this again. This government is a government that lowered taxes on middle-class Canadians by increasing taxes on the wealthiest one per cent of Canadians. This government is a government that recognizes that small businesses are the backbone of the Canadian economy and that they are community builders.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, this government made a commitment to Canadians to ensure that we were engaging with them. That is exactly why we have taken historic consultations to ensure that the programs and the laws that we pass actually benefit them. This is the government that increased taxes on the wealthiest one per cent of Canadians by lowering taxes on middle-class Canadians.

Business of the House  Mr. Speaker, this morning we started second reading debate on Bill C-63, the budget implementation act. We will continue debate on this legislation this afternoon. Tomorrow we will commence second reading debate of Bill S-5, concerning amendments to the Tobacco Act. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week, we shall continue with debate on the budget bill.

Transportation Modernization Act  moved: That in relation to Bill C-49, An Act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and other Acts respecting transportation and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts, not more than one further sitting day shall be allotted to the consideration of the report stage and one sitting day shall be allotted to the third reading stage of the said bill; and That fifteen minutes before the expiry of the time provided for Government Orders on the day allotted to the consideration of the report stage and on the day allotted to the third reading stage of the said bill, any proceedings before the House shall be interrupted, if required for the purpose of this Order, and in turn every question necessary for the disposal of the stage of the bill then under consideration shall be put forthwith and successively without further debate or amendment.

Transportation Modernization Act  Madam Speaker, I would like to advise that agreement could not be reached under the provisions of Standing Orders 78(1) or 78(2) with respect to the report stage and third reading stage of Bill C-49, an act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and other Acts respecting transportation and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts.

Business of the House  Mr. Speaker, in a few minutes, we will begin examining Bill C-17 on the Yukon. Tomorrow, we will begin debate at third reading of Bill C-46 on impaired driving. On Monday and Tuesday, we will continue debating Bill C-49. On Wednesday, we will commence report stage of Bill C-45, the cannabis act.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, I always appreciate the opportunity to rise in this place and remind Canadians of the important work this government is doing: the historic investments in infrastructure, by working with provinces, territories, and municipalities; lowering the tax rate on small businesses from 11% in 2015 to nine per cent in 2019.

Business of the House  Mr. Speaker, this afternoon, we will continue the debate we began this morning on the Conservative Party's opposition motion. Tomorrow, we will begin debate at report stage of Bill C-46 on impaired driving. Next Monday shall be an allotted day. For the remainder of next week, we will resume debate on Bill C-46 and also commence debate at report stage of Bill C-49, transportation modernization.
