Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act, 2023  The Conservative Party is the party of free trade in Canada. Former prime minister Brian Mulroney and former president Ronald Reagan signed the first free trade agreement in 1988. There was a lot of resistance at the time from a lot of nay-sayers who were saying things like we were going to lose our sovereignty as a nation. People were saying that our agricultural sector would not be able to compete with the warmer States with longer growing seasons.

Polish Heritage Month  Our friendship and companionship have grown over the years. Polish soldiers trained in southern Ontario for the First World War. We fought together at Dieppe. Canada was the first country to approve Poland joining NATO in 1998 and our military co-operation continues as we work together to secure eastern Europe against Russian aggression.

Transport committee  Thanks for your forbearance, Mr. Chair and colleagues. I think that spells out, rather clearly, first of all, why the minister should be part of this study, why this study is warranted in the first place and a few of the lines of inquiry that are very much in the public interest and would be a benefit to Parliament and to all Canadians.

Environment committee  I was very happy to see the Canada water agency advancing. This is a long-held dream for many people who felt more federal leadership would be helpful here. The first priority is a focus on observations. It should have the active observations of water quantity and quality brought together and dispersed to Canadians in a national way through collaboration.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  It appears that foreign investors have a great deal of confidence in Canada's prospects, as we are third in the world, and probably second, since the United States necessarily attracts by far the most investment. The third chart is with respect to the budgetary balance projections for G7 nations. As Sir John A. Macdonald used to say, “Don't compare me to the Almighty. Compare me to the alternative.” The alternatives are Germany, Japan, the U.K., Italy, France and the U.S. We are number one in terms of budgetary projections.

Environment committee  Yes. The first is to fix the federal fragmentation. We have about 20 departments with water functions, including four with large ones. The Canada water agency has been stood up, but these functions have not been coalesced into the agency. This is not working yet; we just added another fragment to the mess.
