Ethics  Mr. Speaker, the scandal surrounding the Minister of Finance has become the Prime Minister's kryptonite. The minister introduced a rotten bill, Bill C-27, which made shares in his company, Morneau Shepell, go up. When the minister was caught red-handed making money while in a conflict of interest, he admitted his guilt and said that he would pay everything back.

Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Act  Mr. Speaker I thank my colleague from Yukon for his question and correction. His comment is interesting. Indeed, while stakeholders were unanimous in their opposition to Bill S-6 at the time, in this case, restoring what was needed and demanded by people in Yukon and by several first nations has also garnered unanimous support.

Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question. I would say yes, time management is important in conducting an environmental assessment, but in our opinion, we must take the time needed to conduct a proper environmental assessment. It is arbitrary to want to limit any environmental process in an absolute wall to wall manner, as the Conservatives did, because we hinder the people on the ground who must conduct the best possible studies to reach the most informed decisions.

Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Act  Mr. Speaker, I would ask for unanimous consent to split my time with the hon. member for Hamilton Centre.

Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Act  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleagues. I can confirm that I will be splitting my time with my extraordinary colleague, the hon. member for Hamilton Centre. I stand today as a New Democrat to speak in favour of Bill C-10, even if there is much to criticize about what the government has done in terms of governance, business management, indigenous relations and environmental management.

Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Act  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for her speech. I would like to ask her a simple question about the fact that most Yukoners seem to support the environmental assessment process that was developed over the years. That process had been developed in Yukon, for Yukon, by Yukoners, and the Harper government imposed changes without even consulting the territory's first nations.

Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank the minister for her speech, and I applaud the government's commitment to fixing what the old Conservative government broke. While this is a step in the right direction, there is still room for improvement, and the government can do even more. I have a quote here from someone who is concerned about the new fiscal approach that was imposed by the Conservative government: The fiscal approach contradicts and violates our final agreements.

Fall Economic Statement  Mr. Speaker, I want to quote the finance minister from his speech a few minutes ago when he said that we will continue “investing in ourselves”. I think the finance minister should choose his words with a little more caution. If he is desperately trying to change the channel from the scandal he is entangled in, if he continues to say stuff like that, people will just remember that maybe he benefits himself from some investment or legislation he personally tabled in the House of Commons.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, while the finance minister is desperate to change the channel by performing some magic tricks, Canadians understand that he has used public policy for his own advantage. Bill C-27 is not only bad legislation and an attack against good pension plans, it is also very good news for some people, for example, Morneau Shepell.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, Liberals are the government. The Liberals bumped up their economic update in a desperate attempt to sidestep a scandal, but no one is fooled. The Minister of Finance introduced a bill that directly benefits his company. He was supposed to put his company in a blind trust, but he did not, just as he was supposed to tackle the little arrangements that their big CEO friends have.

Ethics  A good Liberal can never admit he is wrong, Mr. Speaker. I am sure that the finance minister desperately wants to change the channel and he will try again tomorrow with the economic update. He has broken any trust that Canadians could have had in him. It is crystal clear. He tabled legislation that could benefit his company and himself directly.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, the Minister of Finance could use a remote control, because he is really trying to change the channel. He is cleaning his rose-coloured glasses with tomorrow's economic update, but he still has to explain himself. He has millions of shares in Morneau Shepell, and two years ago he indicated that he would put them in a blind trust, which he did not do.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I find the Liberal government's definition of tax fairness fascinating. I always thought that tax fairness meant taking more from the rich and giving it to the poor, but it turns out that the Minister of Finance and the Liberal Party are reverse Robin Hoods. They rob from the poor and give to the rich.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his comment and his question. I know he is being ironic because everything is wrong with that. A finance minister is expected to make decisions that are good for workers and the people of this country, not his own interests and his own shares in his company.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I do not know what universe the parliamentary secretary is living in, but it is not the same one that the people of Quebec and Montreal live in. They see what the Minister of Finance is doing and they understand full well that he made choices that benefit his company and increased the value of his shares.
