The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

There were opportunities to go longer and to start extra days, but it didn't happen, so now we are in this mode.

Ed Fast Conservative Abbotsford, BC

You did not give us extra days.

Garnett Genuis Conservative Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, AB

But Madam Chair, some of these amendments have been table dropped. The officials haven't even seen them, so I appreciate that this takes a long time.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

None of the ones that you're doing right here have had that situation.

Garnett Genuis Conservative Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, AB

To the point about time, this is an important bill with a lot of content in it. It takes time. I think the time should be proportionate to the length and the magnitude of the changes, not the same for every kind of legislation, regardless of how complex it is.

Therefore, I would like to propose that we have additional meetings where there are officials that are present.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

Garnett, look at the dates on these. You can see how long they've been in our hands.

Garnett, thank you very much for your comments, but we are in voting. We made this motion back in March. We're not changing the motion.

9:25 p.m.

Conservative

Garnett Genuis Conservative Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, AB

I'd like to challenge the chair on that.

9:25 p.m.

Conservative

Ed Fast Conservative Abbotsford, BC

He's challenged the chair, so we will have a vote.

9:25 p.m.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

Yes. We'll have a vote.

9:25 p.m.

Conservative

Garnett Genuis Conservative Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, AB

Can I speak to that challenge?

9:25 p.m.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

I thought you just did.

9:25 p.m.

Conservative

Garnett Genuis Conservative Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, AB

No, I'm going to make my case for the challenge.

9:25 p.m.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

What are you challenging?

9:25 p.m.

Conservative

Garnett Genuis Conservative Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, AB

I'm challenging your decision that we can't have additional meetings or have a discussion about additional meetings.

9:25 p.m.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

The committee made a decision and it voted on it, Garnett. It's over.

May 22nd, 2018 / 9:25 p.m.

Ed Fast Conservative Abbotsford, BC

The Liberals made a decision.

9:25 p.m.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

It's not a challenge anymore that you can bring forward.

9:25 p.m.

Conservative

Ed Fast Conservative Abbotsford, BC

Were you part of that decision?

9:25 p.m.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

The motion was brought forward in March. It was voted on and it passed. It's not a chair decision; it was a committee decision. It's done. I am executing the motion that was brought forward and voted on.

9:25 p.m.

Conservative

Ed Fast Conservative Abbotsford, BC

It was Gerald Butts' decision.

9:25 p.m.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

Garnett, it's not something that's challengeable.

9:25 p.m.

Conservative

Garnett Genuis Conservative Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, AB

I would like to propose a motion to the committee that we adjourn and that we schedule additional meetings to invite officials to actually provide their input on amendments so we can ask questions before we proceed.

9:25 p.m.

Liberal

The Chair Liberal Deb Schulte

Garnett, I'm ending the conversation. This is not a point of order. I'm executing a motion. It's a motion that was voted on by committee. I'm executing it as it was adopted.

It's too late.

9:25 p.m.

Conservative

Garnett Genuis Conservative Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, AB

I think I can propose that motion. If you don't agree, then I'm challenging that ruling.

9:25 p.m.

Liberal

William Amos Liberal Pontiac, QC

I have a point of order.

No motion can be brought up at this stage.
