Mr. Speaker, the member for Cambridge raises a good point. The finance minister has declared a conflict in respect of Alto, the company that is working to build a high-speed rail line, because his spouse is a VP at Alto. Nonetheless, the finance minister repeatedly introduced, spoke to and voted on legislation relating to Alto and advancing that project, including billions of dollars. It does raise questions about a potential conflict of interest.
We are calling on the minister to come to the ethics committee to answer questions and clear the air. Unfortunately, that has not happened. Instead, we have seen a filibuster by Liberal MPs that has gone on for 14 hours. My view is that if the minister has nothing to hide, the Liberals would end the filibuster and the minister would come to committee.
