Statements in the House

Sponsorship Program November 1st, 2004

Mr. Speaker, last night, Quebeckers watched with disappointment as the last flight took off from what some call Pierre Trudeau's airport. What a Liberal planning mess. Now the minister, without the support of his caucus, has unilaterally decided on an open skies agreement.

After the empty promises for Mirabel, can Canadians trust promises made by someone who wants to tell Americans how to fly Canadian skies without even negotiating?

Sponsorship Program November 1st, 2004

Mr. Speaker, the Gomery inquiry is a breath of fresh air, but hiding 10 million documents until after the election is not quite what Canadians expected.

Some 30 years ago, amid great fanfare, the Liberal government opened Mirabel airport. The human cost of that airport would prove to be huge: families uprooted, businesses destroyed, hopes dashed.

Is there any Liberal minister who will finally show a little respect for those who suffered and admit that the Liberals made planning errors that marked this infamous project right from the start?

Points of Order October 27th, 2004

Mr. Speaker, during question period I did heckle to the Prime Minister that he was a liar. I did cross the line and I withdraw it.

Sponsorship Program October 27th, 2004

Mr. Speaker, the facts say otherwise but facts have never been a real concern to the minister.

The Prime Minister has promised to come clean and to fully co-operate with Justice Gomery. Meanwhile, his lawyers are trying to keep documents from Justice Gomery and delay the Prime Minister's appearance.

In the House the Prime Minister ducks questions and has that minister, of sorts, answering his questions. Elsewhere he hides behind his lawyers.

Why is it so hard for the Prime Minister to come clean and tell the whole truth about his role in ad scam?

Sponsorship Program October 27th, 2004

Mr. Speaker, I would like to quote from a letter from the present Prime Minister to his friend, Claude Boulay.

My dear Claude,

The services you are offering to my minister strike me as extremely mimely interesting.

This marked the start of a relationship that was to bring over $50,000 in sponsorship program contracts to Groupe Everest.

Can the Prime Minister still deny what he wrote in 1994 when he was the minister responsible for Canada Economic Development?

Sponsorship Program October 26th, 2004

Once again, Mr. Speaker, the minister is making his own mistake by persistently failing to answer the simplest of questions.

Last week the public works minister stood in the House and specifically referred to specific constituencies and projects that were under the sponsorship program, but when it comes to the Prime Minister he has selective amnesia. How convenient but he cannot have it both ways.

Again, when did the Prime Minister know that his office was making phone calls to secure taxpayer money for his own personal fundraiser? When did he know?

Sponsorship Program October 26th, 2004

Mr. Speaker, the Minister of Public Works and Government Services is the last person in the House who should be lecturing anyone on integrity.

For weeks the Liberal government has said that we must cooperate with the Gomery inquiry. This weekend Justice Gomery appealed to members of Parliament to be more open in giving answers and cleaning up this Liberal mess.

The Prime Minister said that he would be honest. Justice Gomery wants us to have answers. Therefore, when did the Prime Minister know that his office was making phone calls to secure money for his fundraiser, Serge Savard?
