Statements in the House

Housing November 21st, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague, and I am just as concerned as she is. We know that the devil is in the details. The Conservatives' secret agenda involves cutting funding for the construction of social and affordable housing. It involves cancelling the new $92‑million initiative for Quebec. It involves cutting support for municipalities. The Conservative leader muzzled his members who want to fight for their communities.

Will the Conservatives vote in favour of tax breaks? Today is the day that they can stand up for the interests of Canadians and Quebeckers.

Carbon Pricing November 7th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, who here has an inferiority complex? It is the Conservative Party.

Honestly, inflation in Canada is at 1.6%, the lowest it has been in the last four months, and interest rates are coming down. On this side of the House, not only do we help Canadians when they need it, but we also build housing and hand out the family allowance. The only party in the House that has an inferiority complex when it comes to Canada's economic resilience is the Conservative Party.

Housing November 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I would like my esteemed colleague to tell his constituents about his plans to cut the 80 housing units announced for his riding through the housing accelerator fund.

Furthermore, his constituents want to know why the Conservative leader does not want to get his security clearance and protect the democratic integrity of his own party.

Housing November 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I would like to share a mathematical concept with my colleague. I have already given this answer in the House.

In mathematics, six housing units is less than 8,000 housing units. That is exactly what the Conservative leader's irresponsible proposal is jeopardizing: 8,000 social and affordable housing units in Quebec. It is up to him to tell Quebeckers why he wants to do this.

Housing November 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the housing accelerator fund will help build thousands of affordable and social housing units. Even the Conservative members know this is true. They wrote to the Minister of Housing to ask for this program in their own ridings. The Conservative leader's irresponsible proposal to reduce investments will jeopardize 8,000 social and affordable housing units in Quebec.

We cannot trust a leader who offers cuts and slogans, especially when he will not get his security clearance so that he can protect Canadians from the threats they are facing.

Housing November 4th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, my colleague's proposal is ill-conceived. Not only would it not help increase the supply of housing, but it would also be done at the expense of the most vulnerable. The Conservatives' hidden intentions are very clear now. They want to help those who want to buy a home, but cut the help to those who are in need.

I have a question for my colleague. How does she explain to people in her riding that she is going to abolish affordable housing and jeopardize the rentals that people need?

Housing October 29th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, what exactly are we talking about when we talk about a housing crisis? We are talking about the supply of social and affordable housing. They boast about having built 150,000 housing units. On this side of the House, not only have we built housing, we have built social and affordable housing. What I keep telling the Conservative Party is that the Conservative leader built six social and affordable housing units. When my family and I were looking for housing in the Conservative era, we could not find social and affordable housing, because the Conservatives do not care about vulnerable people who are looking for housing they can afford.

Housing October 29th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I just want to be clear. Yesterday, the Conservative Party proposed cancelling the construction of 8,000 social and affordable housing units in Quebec.

What I would like to know is how the member opposite, who is from Quebec, will explain to Quebeckers that she is eliminating 8,000 affordable and social housing units? That is what her party proposed yesterday.

Women and Gender Equality October 28th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, when it comes to women's right to choose, women across the country are worried.

I commend the courage of the member for Richmond—Arthabaska, who has revealed the Conservative Party's hidden agenda. He said, and I quote, “What I noticed was an increase in the number of pro-life MPs inside the organization”. He also said that powerful members are influencing the party's policies.

The Conservatives' hidden agenda is to elect anti-choice MPs, to pander to their base and then pass anti-choice legislation. On this side of the House, we protect women's rights, reject anti-choice candidates and provide free access to contraception. That is what it means to stand up for women's freedom.

Mr. Speaker, I have a question for my colleague on the other side of the House.

He says that, to provide access to home ownership, he is going to cut programs that provide social and affordable housing. How will he respond to Quebeckers when he tells them he is going to cut the 8,000 social housing units that are part of the housing accelerator program?

On this side of the House, not only do we provide access to ownership, but we also provide the most vulnerable with a roof over their heads.
