Business of Supply  Mr. Chair, what I gather is that the minister agrees with Canada Post. It is going to create a new dependency for tens of thousands of seniors and people with reduced mobility. In fact, they are going to have to rely on people to go and get their mail. We are going to be the first G7 country that will be unable to provide home delivery.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to present two petitions in the House on the same topic. Canadians, and especially Ontarians, are concerned about our country's rules regarding blood and organ donation. They think that a person's sexual preferences or the fact that they have a same-sex partner should not prevent them from donating an organ if something were to happen to them.

Privacy  Mr. Speaker, they cannot deliver the mail, but they can look at our email. It is mind-boggling. The minister talks as if it were normal to spy on the private lives of 785 million people, as if this were just a precaution. We have the government requesting private information about the public and getting that information without a warrant.

Privacy  Mr. Speaker, we realize that there are times when telecommunication companies might have to hand over private customer information to government agencies in the interest of national security. However, this should never be done without a warrant and I would be surprised that it needs to be done 1.2 million times a year.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for her question, and I will give her a very good answer. Actually, everything that has to do with training workers, with apprenticeship, is part of the solutions that the NDP has put forward, especially for young people whose unemployment rate is much higher than the Canadian average.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I believe that the minister would have more credibility if he were able to show us that he can tell the difference between the cancellation of the program and a moratorium. He is not making that distinction. Well, that is fine. We are nevertheless asking him to vote in favour of this motion.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I am sorry to have to once again contradict the Minister of Employment and Social Development. I would first like to point out that the NDP believes that this program is necessary and that it should be kept. However, Canadian workers and temporary foreign workers who come to help us out as needed should not suffer because of the program.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, we have never heard “Infoman” mentioned in the House of Commons so much as in the last week. This is because of the Conservative Party's electoral “deform”. I am very proud to rise in the House today to speak to the NDP motion moved by my colleague from Newton—North Delta concerning the use of the temporary foreign worker program.

New Democratic Party of Canada  Mr. Speaker, May 2 is just around the corner, and that means that it is time to take stock. It will be good news for the NDP and bad news for the Conservatives. Our MPs from the south shore are fighting so that the public does not have to foot the bill for replacing the Champlain Bridge.

Port of Montreal  Mr. Speaker, Robert Abdallah was the Prime Minister's choice for taking the helm of the Montreal Port Authority. Telephone recordings have revealed that the Prime Minister's Office and the “boss in Quebec” at the time, Dimitri Soudas, were involved in dealings that would have benefited Tony Accurso.

Library and Archives Canada  Mr. Speaker, Library and Archives Canada awarded a contract to an American company to create its new catalogue. Instead of looking at how things are done here and consulting the archives community and Canadian experts, the Conservatives decided to sub-contract the job—without a bidding process—to an American company.

Canada Post  Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives are so incompetent that they are not even capable of delivering the mail to people anymore. That makes no sense. People want the government to improve services, not cut them. With the increased cost of a stamp, we will now be paying 35% to 59% more to send a letter.

Democratic Reform  Mr. Speaker, let us look at the facts. When there were problems with the vouching system, it was because of administrative errors. No voter fraud was reported. The minister has to stop treating honest citizens like criminals. He is using false pretenses to try to disenfranchise 120,000 people, including aboriginal people, homeless people, students, seniors and the poor.

Offshore Health and Safety Act  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague from Brome—Missisquoi for his question. Indeed, the previous and current governments are like two peas in a pod. For many years now, the Conservatives have been serving the interests of the same groups, who do not happen to be families and workers.

Offshore Health and Safety Act  It seems we are past 60, Mr. Speaker. Maybe we will reach 100. We, in the NDP, believe that it is useful to discuss, to analyze and to amend bills in order to improve them.
