Foreign Affairs committee  Putin's machine supports movements like Brexit, far-right groups like those of Marine Le Pen in France and Golden Dawn in Greece, and potential agents of chaos like Donald Trump. Now Italy is on the brink. Cyberwar, information war, the export of corruption and intimidation are weapons Putin uses frequently and effectively.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 2  It is a theory that has been disproved time and again. It has failed. It leads only to bankruptcy and suffering, as we saw in Greece. We believe in bottom-up economics. We raised the personal exemption by $1,500, lifting a million people off the tax rolls altogether. We lowered federal income taxes for people earning less than $30,000 a year by 90%.

National Sickle Cell Awareness Day Act  Although people from all ethnic backgrounds can have this disease, it tends to be more prevalent among those with ancestors from India, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, particularly Greece and Italy, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Caribbean. There is a connection between this disease and places where malaria is prevalent; however, since it is a bit complicated to explain, I will not elaborate any further right now.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  They cannot obtain any support for medical care. I think many of you saw those pictures of the sick Yazidis. Also, the Yazidis in Greece are not safe. They were attacked by Islamic State supporters. There were Arabs, Kurds, Afghans, and Chechens. About the video, yes I do have a video of eye witnesses—actually their brother was killed by peshmerga—and I'm willing to share.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  Since 2014, many Yazidis have fled Sinjar, ending up in the Sheikhan area, in camps for internally displaced persons that are mainly in Dohuk province, or as refugees in other countries, such as Turkey and Greece. At present, the area around Sinjar remains off-limits to our mission staff and Government of Canada officials because of the ongoing battle against Daesh in Mosul and in the greater Nineveh province area.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  In terms of location, in terms of your advice to Canada on where we should go to try to provide support to the refugees, I think in your last meeting you suggested that we maybe look at a multi-pronged approach. How would you prioritize location? Would it be Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Greece? How would you prioritize where we should go in, as our first phase, to try to provide support?

Citizenship and Immigration committee  I would say, let's talk with the Kurdish regional government maybe for emergency cases and let's look at the other states such as Greece, Turkey, and Jordan for other things. I'm not quite sure. It seems that your program is concentrated only on Yazidis. Our program was focused on vulnerable women and children. We were able to take some Christians and Muslims too.

Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Implementation Act  I know that in my riding of Davenport, a wonderfully diverse riding with the majority of resident families coming from European countries like Portugal, Italy, Spain, and even Greece and France, they are excited at the prospect of this agreement and bill coming into force. I should note that not all trade agreements are seen equally in my riding. There are many concerns about the TPP, but for CETA there is large support and people are very excited about it.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  If I were to advise the Canadian government, I might suggest the mixed admission of emergency cases from Iraq and refugee families from other countries like Jordan or Greece. You have to see how you can bring the people, if they're able to reintegrate into our culture. Finally, I would just like to say that some of the victims don't define themselves as victims anymore.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 2  Mortgaging our future without delivering any results in the present is not responsible. Burning through billions of dollars is not good management. Greece tried that, without much success. I am worried that Canada is going down the same road.

Business of Supply  Mirza Ismail, from Yezidi Human Rights Organization International, noted that “In total there are about 3,363 Yazidi refugees in Greece”. There are also thousands currently in the Turkish camps. Precious time has already passed since the summer when the committee met on an urgent basis. Action needs to be taken now.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  She has called for help for Yazidis who are also being discriminated against by UN agents in refugee camps in Greece and Turkey. My question is for the Prime Minister. When he asked Nadia Murad for a photo opportunity in New York last week, what was it like to look into her eyes, see that haunted look, and tell her why he was not helping the Yazidi people?

Electoral Reform committee  “What is the difference”, you may ask, “aren't they related?” Yes, of course they are, and the origins of both can be traced to ancient Greece, but they are not the same thing. Democracy is a condition, a system, a state of things, whereas politics is an art, the “art of the possible”, to quote a famous book by Canadian political scientist James Eayrs.

Electoral Reform committee  The mixed system is very interesting. The perfect system does exist, but it dates back a long time, to Greece, Athens and the agora. Everyone assembled and made decisions together. Given the current population, however, it would unfortunately be impossible to apply it. However, I expect your committee will submit simulations to us to illustrate the various ways of operating the proportional system.

Electoral Reform committee  First, parties came onto the scene after the designated territory of those elected. In Ancient Greece, there were demes, districts, to which people belonged. Belonging is therefore one of the conditions. The other that you will get is a multi-party system. A number of researchers are working on the multi-party system, because it provides less effective governance and takes a long time to reach and to work at.
