Taxation  We know that they want to increase the GST. We know that they want to impose a job-killing carbon tax. We also know that they want to take away the universal child care benefit. The Liberals and their leader seem to like taking money out of Canadians' pockets. Would the Liberal leader stand up in the House today and finally come clean with Canadians?

Liberal Party of Canada  The Liberals said that they would reverse the 2% GST cut that this Conservative government made. Then they said that they would bring in a job-killing carbon tax. Now they are openly talking about broad, wide-sweeping increases to taxes across the board. Canadians have a right to know this. What taxes are the Liberals proposing to raise? How much are they going to raise them?

Subcommittee on Canadian Industrial Sectors committee  Places like China and India subsidize their energy costs, so they didn't suffer the same increase. That was sort of a good study of what putting on a carbon tax would do. In the short term, it wouldn't really do anything. It wouldn't reduce our consumption of carbon to move to more sustainable options, because they're not available. That's why technology really is the key, I think, to moving away from a carbon-dependent economy.

The Environment  Speaker, the fact is for far too many years certain political parties have played lip service to climate change and the fight against it. Now the Liberal leader plans on hiking taxes and imposing a job-killing carbon tax on all Canadians. Our environmental policy is tough and real. It strikes the right balance between protecting the environment while ensuring that Canadian families can have food on their tables.

The Environment  He went on to say, “Canadians are ready for tough measures, including the controversial carbon tax”. That is what the Liberal leader said.

Taxation  We know that the Liberals want to increase the GST. We know that they want to impose a job-killing carbon tax and last week, the Liberal leader said, “We will have to raise taxes”. If there was any doubt that the Liberals were out of touch with Canadians before this announcement, their new policy has surely confirmed it.

The Environment  This government is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020 and, by 2020, to have 90% of electricity produced by clean sources. A carbon tax that his leader is proposing will not achieve that.

The Environment  Speaker, the fact is that for long, long years we had a Liberal government that did absolutely nothing on the environment. Now we have a Liberal leader who wants to impose a job killing carbon tax on Canadians. Our policy on the environment is tough, it is real and it strikes the right balance between creating jobs and protecting the environment. That is what Canadians want.

Government Operations committee  That politician went on to say on June 15, 2006, to the Globe and Mail: “We've also got to have popular, practical, believable policies that may involve some form of carbon tax.” That federal politician then went on, on December 18, 2008, in a City TV news interview, to say “I'm not going to take a GST hike off the table.” He then went on to say on April 14, 2009, just a few days ago, to the Kitchener-Waterloo Record, “We will have to raise taxes.”

Liberal Party of Canada  Threatening Canadians with tax hikes in the middle of a recession is the worst thing to do when attempting to stimulate the economy. But could we expect otherwise? This same party wants to increase the GST and create a carbon tax that would be devastating for employment. The Conservative government's economic action plan provides for $20 billion in tax cuts for Canadians. The Liberal Party wants to pick their pockets once again.

Taxation  The Liberal Party wanted to raise the GST and the Liberal leader campaigned on the job-killing carbon tax. Conservatives are taking action to help Canadian families with our economic action plan. Liberals are trying to take their hard-earned dollars away. How much would the Liberal leader's tax hike cost Canadians?

Parliamentary Budget Officer  He signed the coalition deal, now he pretends he was never in favour of it. He was the first to propose a job killing carbon tax, forced it on his former leader, now he says, because it is not popular, he will not talk about it any more. Then he said he supports the oil sands, but voted for a bill yesterday that was tiddlywinks, in his own words--

Liberal Party of Canada  Sadly, this is the only idea ever offered up by the Liberal Party in response to Canada's serious economic challenges. The bill is as bad as the Liberals' job killing carbon tax. The bill is also a slap in the face to climate change approach put forward by both our government and the U.S. administration. How low can the Liberals sink? Their willingness to again shack up with an NDP-Bloc coalition is a warning to all of us how shamefully desperate the Liberal Party is to get its hands on power.

Liberal Party of Canada  Speaker, imagine if a political party tells voters in B.C. that it does not want to help the auto industry, then in Ontario pretends it never has said such words. Imagine if a political party champions a job-killing carbon tax one day, then backs away from it the next. Imagine if a political party would say on the east coast that it supports the seal hunt, then back in Ottawa introduces a bill that would ban the seal hunt.
