Mr. Speaker, again, this measure is not new. The opposition parties, including the hon. member from the Bloc Québécois, had an opportunity to ask questions on this. However, I presume that, as usual in the Bloc Québécois, they voted without even reading the bill.

Mr. Speaker, as everyone knows, this tax measure is not new. This measure was announced in 2003 by the previous government. It was reintroduced in 2006 and received support from all the opposition parties. The question I have today for the hon. Bloc Québécois member is the following. Why did she not speak up sooner if she had questions?

That said, in Quebec, SODEC also has measures in place to ensure that Canadian taxpayers do not end up sponsoring excessive violence or any heinous attacks against targeted groups in society.

Mr. Speaker, our government has made a firm commitment to promoting both of our country's official languages, including French. The Bloc could have supported us when we announced consultations. We made a firm commitment to developing the next phase of the action plan for official languages. I invite the members of the Bloc to work with us on that.

Mr. Speaker, the members of the Bloc Québécois have raised this issue many times here in the House, and many times, we have pointed out that our government will shoulder its responsibilities, which means that it will promote our two official languages at the federal level. I invite the Bloc to heed Mr. Landry's sage advice. The former Parti Québécois premier of Quebec asked the troops to cease provoking pointless confrontations.

Mr. Speaker, just a few months ago, the former leader of the Parti Québécois urged the sovereignist troops to cease provoking useless confrontations. The federal government will continue to work within its jurisdiction while respecting areas under provincial jurisdiction.

Mr. Speaker, the Bloc Québécois is well aware that people in Quebec and across Canada are paying close attention to open federalism. As the Prime Minister said, we will continue to respect the provinces' jurisdiction, we will assume our responsibilities, and we will promote linguistic duality in Canada.

[Status of Women, December 5th, 2007]

Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for providing the opportunity to point out the facts.

It was under our government that the budget for the women's program rose by 42% to a record high of $15.3 million.

We are the first government in Canadian history to have appointed a Parliamentary Secretary for Status of Women.

We are the party that has provided significant support for women and that is making a difference.

The opposition parties should put more effort into directly helping the most vulnerable women rather than putting all their efforts into unfounded statements—

Mr. Speaker, I would simply like to correct what the hon. member just said. Perhaps since her French is not very good, she misinterpreted what she read in the newspaper.

This is what our government is doing for women. Among other things, we have increased by over 42% the budget for Status of Women Canada programs. In the first group of projects that have been announced, 34 projects are for fighting—

Mr. Speaker, I had the pleasure of meeting committee members during the lunch hour and, as I indicated, the government is committed to the film industry in Canada, including its French-language component.
