Crucial Fact

  • Her favourite word was conservatives.

Last in Parliament October 2015, as NDP MP for Hull—Aylmer (Québec)

Lost her last election, in 2015, with 32% of the vote.

Statements in the House

Supplementary Estimates (B), 2014-15 December 3rd, 2014

Mr. Speaker, we agree to apply the results of the previous vote. The NDP votes no.

Canadian Heritage December 3rd, 2014

Mr. Speaker, they are asleep at the switch. Even with mould, a decrepit roof and asbestos, school groups were still being allowed in. Think about it: that is unbelievable, but the Conservatives have known about it since 2013. What are they waiting for?

The Museum of Science and Technology is important, but the government has been dragging its feet on this file at least since 2013, if not before, and that has put people at risk.

Can the Conservatives explain why they have been so slow to react on this file?

Housing December 2nd, 2014

Mr. Speaker, I was at that meeting and I can vouch for what my colleague is saying.

The minister says that the investments increased, and that the HPS and the housing first initiative are in place and working well.

In that case, can the minister tell us what will become of the application of the group of non-profit organizations in Hull—Aylmer that I personally handed to her for the second time yesterday? Will the organizations receive money to help people in the Outaouais with inadequate housing?

Housing December 1st, 2014

Mr. Speaker, when the government announced a change in direction for the homelessness partnering strategy, we knew it would mean fewer resources and more work for community organizations.

In my riding of Hull—Aylmer, a group of non-profit organizations submitted a request and Service Canada asked that the project start date be pushed to December 1. Today is December 1, and the group has yet to receive a response.

Can the minister tell us why Service Canada cannot even meet its own deadlines?

Health November 24th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, more than 50 years after the tragedy, a hundred or so Canadian victims of thalidomide are waiting for compensation.

At the time, the Canadian government delayed pulling the drug off the shelves, and hundreds of Canadians died or became disabled. It is high time to correct this injustice.

The question now is: will the government support our motion and support the thalidomide survivors or not?

Health November 24th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, 50 years ago the Canadian government approved the sale of thalidomide as a safe drug for use in pregnancy.

Many Canadian families suffered tragic consequences as a result of that decision. The remaining thalidomide survivors are now dealing with immense pain and suffering. For decades, they have struggled alone, but it should not have to be that way.

Will the government do the right thing and support the NDP motion to provide immediate compensation to the survivors?

Veterans Affairs November 24th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, for years, the Conservatives denied that there was an urgent need to deal with the mental health of our soldiers and veterans.

Instead of providing soldiers and veterans with services, the Conservatives closed offices and tried to save more than $1 billion at their expense. It took a scathing report by the Auditor General and a public relations crisis for the government to finally do something about this.

Does the minister really think that he can buy veterans' silence with $200 million?

International Development November 21st, 2014

Mr. Speaker, the Minister of Finance went to boast about balancing his budget to the financial elite in Toronto.

What he did not say is that the budget would be balanced on the backs of the least fortunate. This includes the unemployed, the ill and our veterans. The Conservatives even diverted $125 million earmarked for international assistance, as though there was no need in Iraq, Syria and West Africa.

Why is the government trying to save money at the expense of the least fortunate, here in Canada and abroad?

International Development November 21st, 2014

Mr. Speaker, while Conservatives boast about their spending, the fact is that they are hiding the truth. Almost one-sixth of their foreign aid has been returned to the Department of Finance untouched. Will they now admit to Canadians that their so-called “surplus” has been done on the backs of the world's poorest and most vulnerable people?

Veterans Affairs November 20th, 2014

Mr. Speaker, there is a shortage of staff, and veterans are waiting six to eight months for services. Veterans are dying before they receive the services or equipment they need.

In the meantime, the minister secretly returned $1.1 billion to the consolidated revenue fund.

Is the government not ashamed of diverting money that was meant for our veterans?
