Statements in the House

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020 February 2nd, 2021

Madam Speaker, my colleague from Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge spoke about a number of topics that are very important during a pandemic.

What does he think about the economic recovery? Does he believe that the economic recovery is linked to the environment and the measures that the government will take with respect to its position on the environment in which we live?

I would like him to talk about the possible economic recovery.

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020 February 2nd, 2021

Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her very interesting speech.

However, she paints a rather gloomy picture of the situation, compared to my colleague, who presented some innovative solutions. Does she think that the Quebec model my colleague presented could be replicated in the rest of Canada?

Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement Implementation Act January 28th, 2021

Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for his excellent speech.

I would like to know if he agrees with the idea of parliamentarians and provincial representatives being more involved in the next rounds of talks on free trade agreements with other countries.

Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement Implementation Act January 28th, 2021

Madam Speaker, the Bloc Québécois supports the bill to implement the trade continuity agreement between Canada and the United Kingdom because we understand that it is important for Quebec businesses to ensure continuity in relationships. The negotiations began on November 21, 2020, whereas CETA was set to expire at the end of 2020.

Next time we negotiate with the United Kingdom, could we possibly have more notice?

Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement Implementation Act January 28th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his enlightening speech on the CUKTCA. He knows this topic well.

Could the member talk more specifically about how milk producers will be affected and about how the United Kingdom will continue to be able to send its cheeses here until 2023? I would like to hear his thoughts on that provision in the agreement.

Regional Newspaper in the Mauricie January 27th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, in 1920, Joseph-Hermann Fortier founded the daily newspaper Le Nouvelliste in a modest space on Rue du Platon in the heart of downtown Trois-Rivières.

Over the many years and issues, several renowned columnists and journalists joined the team to cover and analyze current events in the Mauricie.

On October 30, 2020, Le Nouvelliste celebrated in a more subdued than festive manner its 100th anniversary, a centennial marked by rushed but necessary efforts to digitize the publication in the midst of a pandemic. Le Nouvelliste, which has changed hands several times, was able to adapt and evolve by adopting a co-operative model.

I want to acknowledge the invaluable media contribution of our daily newspaper and wish a happy anniversary to Le Nouvelliste.

Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act January 26th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. The interpretation is not working.

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020 January 26th, 2021

Madam Speaker, I would like to thank the member for Newmarket—Aurora for his presentation.

I would like to hear what he has to say about farmers, a group that may have been forgotten in the suite of measures that the government wants to implement by passing Bill C-14. Have farmers been forgotten?

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020 January 25th, 2021

Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague the parliamentary secretary for listing all of the programs offered by the government. However, I would like to know whether I am mistaken about this update.

Does this array of programs include any assistance for seniors who are also facing financial hardship during the pandemic? Could my colleague tell me if I misread?

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020 January 25th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, I listened carefully to my hon. colleague, the parliamentary secretary. I thank him for thinking of the health care providers who are taking care of people with COVID-19.

I want to talk about self-employed workers and small businesses in particular. There are programs out there right now. However, Karine Dufour, one of my constituents, told me today that it takes a very long time to get a response to a grant application and that the CRA's checks are onerous.

What does my colleague think about that?
