Won their last election, in 2019, with 29% of the vote.

Statements in the House

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act March 11th, 2020

Madam Speaker, I would like to commend my colleague for his very enlightening speech on supply management, particularly with regard to dairy products. In a way, he shares the same view as the Bloc Québécois. I commend him for that. I was very surprised to hear him mention turkey farmers.

Can he tell us more about that? What impact will CUSMA have on that sector?

Business of Supply February 28th, 2020

Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for his presentation. I appreciate the tone he used during his intervention. I am encouraged to see that we can have calm and reasoned exchanges in the House.

Does he think his colleagues might exercise self-control from now on?

Criminal Code February 27th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I thank my distinguished colleague for her speech.

Yesterday, I stated in the House that certain aspects of this bill need to be clarified. Similarly, I noted that the provision dealing with the eligibility of mature minors, which we have talked very little about here, is to be reviewed.

I would like to know how my esteemed colleague would define the term “mature minors”.

Criminal Code February 27th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague for his speech.

I would like to know why my colleague does not like the idea of having a single witness present while MAID is being administered. Usually, at this important time in their lives, sick people are surrounded by family members, and therefore by love and affection.

Criminal Code February 26th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my hon. colleague for taking a step in the right direction when it comes to medical assistance in dying. Offering Canadians a clear personal choice for a dignified death without suffering is certainly one of the most humane acts. Nevertheless, while the easing of certain requirements might facilitate access to this service, certain points need clarification.

My question is this: Beyond these cases described as having a reasonably foreseeable death, what about the issue of advance requests, for instance, for people with Alzheimer's?

Gaétan Boivin February 25th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I want to pay tribute to a forward-thinking man from my riding, Gaétan Boivin, president and CEO of the Port of Trois-Rivières.

He won the male personality of the year award at the Radisson gala presented by the Mauricie chamber of commerce last Friday.

Mr. Boivin has successfully modernized the Port of Trois-Rivières by working with his team to implement the On Course for 2030 plan. Thanks to his efforts, the port now has integrated modern, productive infrastructure. With its deep water capacity, the Port of Trois-Rivières is one of the largest ports in Quebec and eastern Canada. It employs thousands of people and contributes $270 milion to the economy of Trois-Rivières.

I want to congratulate Mr. Boivin, a visionary pioneer who has made the Port of Trois-Rivières a remarkable place.

The Economy February 21st, 2020

Mr. Speaker, the rail blockade crisis has already had a serious impact on Mauricie. Our farmers and their animals are facing a propane shortage. Two Resolute Forest Products sawmills are hours away from laying off all their employees. At the port of Trois-Rivières, more than 200 rail cars are delayed.

What concrete action is the government going to take to ensure that the blockades are removed this weekend?

Business of Supply February 20th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, the repercussions are being felt even in Mauricie. Our economy is significantly affected by this dispute. We are still waiting for a passenger train, the HFR. Our trains primarily carry goods, which is why it is so important to break this impasse.

What is the Conservative Party's position on the use of force?

Will that really advance negotiations to resolve this conflict?

Judges Act February 19th, 2020

Madam Speaker, can my colleague, the parliamentary secretary, tell me in specific terms what kind of continuing education judges will be required to receive in this case?

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act February 6th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I need to mention an important fact. The Bloc Québécois is not blaming the Canada Border Services Agency officers. We do not want to put the agency on trial.

Rather, we believe that the government is the one responsible for the agency's lack of oversight and the lack of transparency, which is unusual for such a large organization. The Liberals and the Conservatives are both responsible for tolerating this for so long.
